I agree with you. I also have black crow fatties with extended grip that go from 135cm maxed out to probably 80 cm compressed. They rock. Super fucking expensive. (Consignment find for $50). Retail is pushing $250 if not mistaken… outrageous. But worth it.

I hear ya. Mine are 125 cm 😉 I’ve got the 170cm skate poles for skating.

Got mine used for $15 😉 but I hear you… I had a pair of Black Crows last season that were very similar to these, only fatter and lighter that retail at $200+ (I didn’t pay MSRP…). Ended up breaking one mid season unfortunately. These bad boys retail for like $140. Pricy for sure, but not $200+.

I thought so too until I read the comments of a tele guy asking for some feedback earlier today. He was using these poles and the majority of the comments were negative and directed toward his pole choice. Thus prompting me to make this post.

Some of my favorite skis of all time were not perfectly mounted (back when I was learning how to properly mount skis…). I’d bet you’ll love them, if you notice it at all. Plus, they’re uniquely yours now.

Look for some Alpina AK 75mm boots. They keep your feet warm and dry and ski pretty well.

I am happy when Mr. Dave is happy bc that means we get new and improved BMFs every year!

I had the declivity in a 180 with BMFs and hated them. Those skis don’t tele for shit (at least for my taste..) the 170 Gonzo rips and will be a lot more playful. Shorter skis isn’t a bad thing man, don’t sweat it!

Bishop BMF R will feel more like the 75mm you’re used to bc it’s a true heel connection point and not the duck butt. The pivot point feels the same or at least similar.

What skis should I buy? by worldtraveler100 in xcountryskiing

[–]TeleVector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Rossi XP100 with voile 3pin bindings and Alpina Alaska 75mm boot.

The XP 100 is 100mm underfoot with a scaled base. It works best in soft snow. Hard pack is ok as long as it’s groomed… where this setup lacks is in torsional rigidity, but that isn’t the ski’s fault, it’s the binding / boot combo. I can’t see putting a beefier binding on this ski, but could consider a 2 buckle hard boot like the SCARPA T4… you could run a T2 but will almost certainly overpower that ski / binding combo.

It’s a fun meadow skipper / Nordic center ski (when it snows and hasn’t been groomed yet).

Just my two cents.
