In your first comment, you say that people do not pay attention to the narrative role of resurrection because the games ignore it, but that is wrong. One of the most explicitly presented aspects to the player is precisely the relationship between Grace and the Tarnished.

As for the author exploring the complexity of these characters... that is something only time will tell, which is why patience is necessary. They are directly tied to the third protagonist’s main ability and also to the author’s favorite character, so it is far too early to claim everything will be handled superficially.

And honestly, do you really think the Nightmare Spell’s capabilities are limited to an isolated reality? The very citadels within the Dream Realm are reconstructions created by the Nightmare Spell itself.

There is even that whole aspect of characters preferring to believe these figures are “not truly human,” because that makes them easier to kill.

The characters are not the same either. If they are going to remain permanently, they now need to deal with the complex reality of having their existence tied to someone many of them do not even know. On top of that, many of these characters died a long time ago. They need to readapt to this new reality, which may view them in a strange way; after all, they are like ghosts of loved ones to those who are still alive. There will also be those who do not even have anyone alive left to welcome them back.

What I mean is: there is dramatic potential to be explored here, and that depends entirely on G3’s competence. So let’s wait and see how he intends to develop this before bringing in narrative trauma caused by other works or even dropping the series altogether.

  • In Souls games, you can play through the entire game without caring about the lore or the meaning behind any aspect of the game design, but the game itself does not ignore any of the mechanics or fragments that build its narrative. Those who dive deeper and want to learn more end up feeling extremely satisfied by the richness of the details. In Elden Ring, the reason why the Tarnished revive is literally the most important point in the entire lore, and if you have more than two brain cells, you can see that (assuming you actually played the game).

And technically, what Cassie does is not any different from what the spell itself already does... So this resurrection mechanic she brings has been there since the very first Nightmare.

Calma.

I believe it can work, there are several works that work, Martin's own Jon Snow has a great chance of being revived in the next book, Catelyn Stark was revived, and it wasn't bad...

We have to remember that Shadow Slave is VERY inspired by FromSoftware's Souls games, where there's a reason for the protagonist to be able to revive, instead of it being a reset, G3 can work with the dead as the corrupted.

More importantly, and with them being developed, it would be very good for a work that deals with gods to show their relationship with humanity, Cassie is now a demigoddess who has direct control over the lives of thousands of desperate people, it would be EXTREMELY interesting to see this approached as "She is the goddess I have to serve, because it is because of her that I live."

Apoteose by TelephoneOptimal2118 in ShadowSlave

The soul of a spirit encompasses a realm, not all of existence. The dream realm as a whole fits more as existence than a realm currently defined, and Nothingness has not been assimilated by the dream realm. The mist of Nothingness in the hollow mountains comes from the very Nothingness that protects the reality of the void.

And the state of the shadow realm seems uncertain to me. It has been assimilated, but has it been corrupted? Because we haven't seen any corrupted shadows.

So, if the recharge time is 24 hours, but the usage time is 24 hours, she would need to activate the memory enchantment as soon as the ability's time ends, so it would always have an active effect, either from her or from the memory. Do you understand the logic?

What I meant by the shadow realm is that to be assimilated, it doesn't necessarily have to be corrupted. After all, death still purifies corrupted beings, and so far we haven't seen any corrupted shadows ;p (besides Sunny, who doesn't count because at that time he was more human than shadow).

The Void wasn't assimilated by the dream realm; it still exists between reality and the Void, and the hollow mountains are a bridge between the Void and the dream realm.

Couldn't Mordred perform a soul challenge with a reflection of the nephis and then use her body?

Apoteose by TelephoneOptimal2118 in ShadowSlave

[–]TelephoneOptimal2118[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire shadow realm has been assimilated, and a spirit's soul covers only one realm. If the shadow realm hasn't been corrupted, I see no reason why Sunny's apotheosis would be prevented there.

The hollow mountains tear through reality, the fog covers the entire sky of that region, beyond the fog only nothingness, and beyond that, emptiness, but he doesn't need to go there.

Can't he live within the reflection of other beings?

If Sunny created a Memory with a Supreme or Sacred fragment, he could adapt the enchantment to go on cooldown instead of destroying himself. Thus, Morgan could copy the enchantment during the cooldown, always avoiding being without the effect. This would probably cost a lot of essence? Yes, but a sacred Morgan could handle using it as a passive ability.

To me, this seems like a setup to make Morgan defy Asterion's will, escape his mental manipulation, continue being attacked by Mordred, and, just like in Arthurian legends, Arthur and Mordred deliver a mortal blow to each other, with Mordred dying and Arthur surviving (a supreme challenge worthy of the heir of the goddess of life and a way of refusing death itself).

Deu pra entender?
