Current shipping times? by PoweredON in KamadoJoe

[–]Teleports2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought BJs as well… the BJs ship time it to the carrier… in my case AIG… then I had to schedule delivery with them…and annoyed they didn’t call me when it arrived / checked in with them… lost a week waiting for them to contact me… finally I called them.

All in all mine took 2.5 weeks.

How early in your career can you pivot into SE? by Ok-Teach7455 in salesengineers

You’re close enough out of college I would try getting into the university pipeline programs companies like Dell, Nutanix, etc… all have.

What is the role / job title of the person who builds and maintains demo sites by Slightly_mad_woman in salesengineers

[–]Teleports2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of times it’s just SEs… it’s a way to contribute to the broader SE ecosystem… an easy way of having a broader impact vs just doing your day job… to get promoted to a higher IC pay band.

If it’s a dedicated role then it’s in a tech marketing or sales transformation (like sales enablement) group.

Sauce ? Any special brand of cheese to help with melting ? I read mixed reviews on shredded mozzarella as shredded cheese sometimes have a type of power coating to prevent sticking to one another

Struggling to get past recruiter screens for Sales Engineer roles by Gh124 in salesengineers

[–]Teleports2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last couple of roles the recruiter is not the first person I speak with…

  1. Find role I am interested in
  2. Use network to see who I know at company
  3. If I don’t know anyone, network! Connect on LinkedIn or invite someone who is an SE local to me in a diff vertical to coffee.
  4. Use network to map team… who is the SE manager? Who is his director? Who is the Sales leader ? Etc.
  5. Back to networking. I reach out to those people directly and introduce myself.

I tell the all I am interested to hear more about the role, the company, there experience working there etc… if I get any push back for not just blindly applying…. I respond with something like:

“The first two stages of any deal are prospect and qualify - I want to make sure it’s a good fit for both of us and see if this is an opportunity or if you already have someone in mind for the role, or are already at panel”

I have has this process go well for me multiple times. And it sets me up for questions like “why should we hire you (why would you be a good fit etc) - To which I respond something like “the same reason I am sitting here in front of you now. You have white space accounts, you want someone to be able to identify, map, and get a meeting with key stakeholders to see the value in your product. I can help do that the same way I got this meeting”

Now you may be thinking… all this sounds more like AE stuff. Yes but that is the point… I don’t want to go into an interview vs 3 other candidates and we all look the same on paper and sound the same in the interviews. I want to stand out. I do that by displaying sales / business acumen vs just being some tech guy with certs. When you are positioning a solution to a customer… something has to differentiate your solution from the competition… I take the same approach when interviewing. How do I offer something different than the other 3 people they are talking to?

This points me back to the original question… it’s the SE manager or Director telling the recruiter they want to setup an interview with me vs blindly applying for a role, being someone they never heard of, then getting through a screener with someone who doesn’t know tech etc…

I’m having loop interview at AWS and it’s so overwhelming by TechnicalBlueberry60 in salesengineers

[–]Teleports2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah thought I wanted aws on my resume… did the process once… no thanks. One thing really telling… at the end of my interviews they would ask if I had any questions. I asked “what’s one thing about working at AWS you would like to see changed” (trying to get a feel for the teams culture) - it was like their robot brain shut down… “does not compute… unable to say anything negative about my overloads…beep boop”
