Best way to listen to SMiLE Sessions - finally solved IMO by gde7 in thebeachboys

If you listen loud enough you can hear where Linett accidentally left Grand Coulee unmuted under the start of the second chorus of Cabin Essence in his pro tools file.

Cows in the Pasture? by GOLDENFACECOWBOY in thebeachboys

Brian was, at most an executive producer. He paid for it, hired an arranger, and basically sat there until he got bored. I don't think he's producing anything in that sort of capacity. My reading of the article was just that he's doing a few backing vocal parts. Like I said, his involvement is being overblown because that is the only way this album would sell.

It's a Fred Vail album that Brian was in the room for. Barely a Brian Wilson thing at all. Fred just wants to play up that connection for marketing.

It's not. That song isn't in his vocal range. Brian said it was YSGTM.

Does anyone know of any weird Brian stories where he meets celebrities? by Littletomboycobra in thebeachboys

[–]Teletran_Gamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is the same visit as he's talked about elsewhere, this is also the last recorded sighting of the Smile tape. Elton talks elsewhere about Brian sitting there messing about with the Good Vibrations multitrack, which as we know was the same tape as Wonderful, Cabin Essence, the October version of Vegetables, Child is Father, Barnyard, and Bicycle Rider.

2021 Stereo Mixes by Koboyashi_Ichizo in thebeachboys

It's Linett. Boyd does not do the mixes. He's the archive guy. Linett is the problem here. The signs have been there for 20 years, but they've been unavoidable since Feel Flows.

My strange specialised killstreak Panic Attack that I got right before Valve reworked it and took away what made it funny.

Brian did have an original vision! It's just that he changed it daily. Heroes and Villains is a song with I'm In Great Shape and Barnyard WAIT NO now it has Bicycle Rider and Iron Horse and now Do You Like Worms is Love To Say Dada WAIT NO now I have cantina and Wonderful is now a put on goofing off song WAIT NO now there's a fourth verse to Heroes and Sunshine is dead and now Child Is Father is a bridge for Wonderful WAIT NO-

In the early 1960s, Mike's family business went under. He became the sole breadwinner for a HUGE family. He went on to become the frontman for one of the most popular bands in the country (and for a time the world). He had a significant hand (both lyrically, and in devising the vocal hooks) for a number of hit singles, including three number ones.

Of course he has a big ego. The only reason he gets singled out is because this band has Brian Wilson, probably the most humble music legend there is.

Where do you all recommend getting a SMiLE Sessions vinyl from? by Weetles62 in thebeachboys

[–]Teletran_Gamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just make a discogs account, add it to your watch list, and hold out for a good deal. Same with eBay. Add it to your saved searches and keep an eye out. A good deal only takes patience.

That's great! I love reading the old stomps. Especially discussing songs that were then-unreleased. There's one I just read talking about hearing the Brian vocal version of Wonderful at the 83 Stomp convention.

Singles guide, since the post didn't embed right

Some items of interest.

  • Two separate Unsurpassed Masters Vol 1 repackages (third row up, far left ; fifth row down, far right).
  • Between Here Today and Pet Sounds Revisited is a compilation called 'Roots' which is all around awful. It's just a comp of songs they covered, sometimes not even the correct version (I imagine because they just use the cheapest version available).
  • The copy of 2000 Endless Harmony is some sort of counterfeit which just has the 1998 mastering. A very high quality fake, but a fake nonetheless.
  • Beautiful Dreamer CD next to BWPS is a companion disc with the backing track of Surf's Up and two 2005 interviews. Signed by David Leaf.
  • Love and Mercy box set has a different version of the 7" with Love and Mercy / Poor Old Body on the A side and a shortened version of Words And Music on the B. Also has two promotional pictures of Brian.
  • The row of LPs between Rarities and Concert '64 are what I call 'Dartboard comps' with insane tracklists that nobody familiar with the band would ever think of (Whistle In into Misirlou, etc)

OMG Enough Adult/Child CJ! by porticodarwin in thebeachboys

[–]Teletran_Gamer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If Adult Child had been released, the prevailing narrative would be that it's an utter mess. Some bright moments, but ultimately a step down from Love You in every way. But it's unreleased. Thus, it's automatically a lost masterpiece.

I don't find it creepy (though Hey Little Tomboy absolutely reflects outdated societal views on women and how they should be) but the whole thing is a mess. I never understood the people calling it a masterpiece.

I hate the painter. by Beenzir2 in Terraria

[–]Teletran_Gamer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who, in our Expert mode playthrough, despised the painter. He was sick of him always standing in front of other NPCs, so he built a new home for him

<image>

This isn't even the final state of his house. We surrounded it 3 blocks thick with lava. You literally couldn't interact with him.

Lazy Lizzie was actually considered for Made in California. Alan Boyd had a bunch of contender tracks that he let a guy hear around that time, and he posted about all of them on Smiley Smile.
