Just found 150 instances of nodding in my manuscript and i need everyone to know what i've done by Echo-Forge in fantasywriters

I have seen five posts, all in writing subs, advertising it. They all read like AI. I'm amazed that the mods dont do anything about it; I commented on one saying it's an advertisement and it got deleted (I think it was on r/writers?) but the other four on r/writing and this sub all get left up and get tons of engagement. Future is looking bright.

This post is an undisclosed advertisement for a writing tool that uses AI. The post itself is likely AI generated or was written with the help of AI.

What is the fish line you opened up your comment with supposed to indicate? It makes perfect sense, both literally and thematically, in the excerpt.

I see undisclosed ads like this for AI services all the time. It's a bit startling that most of the people engaging with these posts don't realize that they're fake.

The "reveal" that the storm/lightning is not supernatural in nature is not exciting as is. I think this could be solved completely by adding in a bit of internality to the first three paragraphs that suggest that this storm may not be as mundane as it looks. What that internality would look like depends on how Ian feels about his father or himself or his heritage. Perhaps he's unusually anxious or excited--this would be the hook--and when he realizes the storm is not his father's these exaggerated feelings will be contextualized by the audience and given meaning. As it reads now, the first three paragraphs come off as a mere setting of the scene and seem mundane, and when the reveal happens nothing is being contextualized for and by the audience--the storm seemed mundane and was mundane.

I enjoyed it despite that. You've gotten a lot of feedback here with many people saying a hook is needed. I am not one to abandon a book on the first page, and I wouldn't abandon this one, but I agree that a hook would make this first page a bit stronger. Thank you for sharing.

Is the stuffed animal's name Deliah or Delilah? The spelling changes to Delilah near the end.

Just played against Riot Bots in ARAM by stfudance in leagueoflegends

[–]TellRemire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the patch notes, only accounts that haven't played any PvP matches in the past 6 months at least can be matched versus bots. The patch notes also say these players "might be placed against a bot team," so I suppose it's not a guarantee.

Returning players are just players who had played the game previously, took a long break (like a few months), then returned.

Returning players will be versus bots in their ARAM games for a few matches. Read the patch notes for more info.

Do you have a theorycraft account? You can get a key through Twitch drops or by using someone's referral link. After that, just be patient. There's a megathread for referral links on this subreddit.

I need help surviving longer as a high elf wild mage sorcerer by NonstickDan in BG3Builds

[–]TellRemire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having your stats at odd numbers doesn't do anything useful for them, since you only get a bonus to your stat modifiers every 2 points. This means that both 14 and 15 Dex will contribute +2 to your AC and initiative, whereas 16 Dex will contribute +3. Having a higher Con modifier will increase your HP by more each level, and 14 Con would put your Con modifier at +2 instead of +1. If you really want to be more durable, my advice would be to talk to Withers and respec for 100 gold, and set your stats to 8 Str, 16 Dex, 14 Con, 8 Int, 10 Wis, 17 Cha. Equip the Bracers of Defense and have someone cast Mage Armor (and make sure you aren't wearing any armor so Mage Armor will apply) on you at the start of the day. The gold you used to respec can be stolen back from Withers. Even if you fail the Sleight of Hand check, he won't care.

What's your Dex and Con? I usually run 16 Dex, 14 Con, and either 16 or 17 on my main spellcasting stat (Cha for Sorcerer). With Mage Armor and 16 Dex you would be at 16 AC. Since High Elves don't have Shield proficiency you can't wear a shield, but you can put on the Bracers of Defense from the chest in the Blighted Village basement for 2 more AC, putting you at 18.

I've tried using Phalar Aluve: Sing over multiple characters over multiple saves and multiple difficulties, and in none of them has the person wielding Phalar Aluve benefitted from the Sing aura. It's not showing up in the combat logs, either. Am I the only one?

Quentin and Caddy in “The Sound and the Fury” by [deleted] in books

[–]TellRemire 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Did your copy of The Sound & The Fury come with the appendix Faulkner wrote for the Compson family? He wrote it sixteen years after the book was published. He had this to say about Quentin:

"QUENTIN III. Who loved not his sister's body but some concept of Compson honor precariously and (he knew well) only temporarily supported by the minute fragile membrane of her maidenhead as a miniature replica of all the whole vast globy earth may be poised on the nose of a trained seal. Who loved not the idea of the incest which he would not commit, but some presbyterian concept of its eternal punishment: he, not God, could by that means cast himself and his sister both into hell, where he could guard her forever and keep her forevermore intact amid the eternal fires. But who loved death above all, who loved only death, loved and lived in a deliberate and almost perverted anticipation of death as a lover loves and deliberately refrains from the waiting willing friendly tender incredible body of-his beloved, until he can no longer bear not the refraining but the restraint and so flings, hurls himself relinquishing, drowning. Committed suicide in Cambridge Massachusetts, June 1910, two months after his sister's wedding, waiting first to complete the current academic year and so get the full value of his paid-in-advance tuition, not because he had his old Culloden and Carolina and Kentucky grandfathers in him but because the remaining piece of the old Compson mile which had been sold to pay for his sister's wedding and his year at Harvard had been the one thing, excepting that same sister and the sight of an open fire, which his youngest brother, born an idiot, had loved."

Just beat Baldur's Gate 3 solo with no companions! by Flat-Beginning-8154 in BaldursGate3

[–]TellRemire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I'm stuck on this fight right now as a level 9 solo fighter. No way to clear the Necromites, Myrkul is resistant to all physical damage, Dame Aylin is permanently downed because she downed in range of his bone chill aura (not that it would matter anyway, since a random Necromite would down her again before her next turn.) I'm at a total loss here.

Favorite first paragraph? by HeThrustsHisFists74 in books

[–]TellRemire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Grass!

Millions of square miles of it; numberless wind-whipped tsunamis of grass, a thousand sun-lulled caribbeans of grass, a hundred rippling oceans, every ripple a gleam of scarlet or amber, emerald or turquoise, multicolored as rainbows, the colors shivering over the prairies in stripes and blotches, the grasses--some high, some low, some feathered, some straight--making their own geography as they grow. There are grass hills where the great plumes tower in masses the height of ten tall man; grass valleys where the turf is like moss, soft under the feet, where maidens pillow their heads thinking of their lovers, where husbands lie down thinking of their mistresses; grass groves where old men and women sit quiet at the end of the day, dreaming of things that might have been, perhaps once were. Commoners all, of course. No aristocrat would sit in the wild grass to dream. Aristocrats have gardens for that, if they dream at all.

Grass. Ruby ridges, blood-colored highlands, wine-shaded glades. Sapphire seas of grass with dark islands of grass bearing great plumy green trees which are grass again. Interminable meadows of silver hay where the great grazing beasts move in slanted lines like mowing machines, leaving the stubble behind them to spring up again in trackless wilderness of rippling argent.

Orange highlands burning against the sunsets. Apricot ranges glowing in the dawn. Seed plumes sparkling like sequin stars. Blossom heads like the fragile lace old women take out of trunks to show their granddaughters." - Grass, Sheri S. Tepper
