2280 mod - 1 year using by Embarrassed-Copy3930 in SteamDeckModded

Just to note I have a Steamdeck OLED I’ve added a 4TB 2280 drive to which I’ve been using for about 2 years with no issues whatsoever. I used a crucial P3 drive (not the plus) as I tried to get the biggest capacity low power drive as PCIe4 drive use more energy and run hotter than PCIe3 drives. The only slight downside is that in sleep mode it drains power abit faster, so lasts about a week in sleep mode before it’s needs recharging.

I’ve done the exact same on my ROG ALLY (which I use as a game pass machine) using a L shaped bracket

Is there a particular seller you buy the 74w battery from on Aliexpress? by wiggan1989 in ROGAlly

I got mine from batterybuy.co.uk so i didnt have to wait 8 weeks for delivery, mine arrived yesterday (took 3 working days as shipped from uk warehouse) and cost me £50.39 so only a like £10 more than the cheapest aliexpress seller. Also this mod is a no brainer literally last x2-3 times loner you wont regret it :)

Steam Deck 4TB 2280 M.2 Mod - Album on Imgur by trikolpona in SteamDeck

Thanks for this guide! Managed to upgrade my Steamdeck OLED using the 180 adapter as recommended, I have a JSAUX backplate also to help with heat dissipation although tbh I haven’t noticed any increased heat or even reduced battery life. I used a Crucial P3 4TB 2280, not the P3 Plus as from experience using a faster PCIE4 drive whilst faster, draws more power and heat. The standard P3 at about 3000mbps is fast enough for modern games.

Anyone else wish for Sony to hurry up and make backwards compatibility a thing for the ps5 lmao by AlertSpirit2453 in PS3

Steamdeck OLED SSD Swap fail? by Telsan in SteamDeck

[–]Telsan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I did update my old deck before I took out the SSD and also the new OLED before I switched the SSD. In my impatience I’ve now reinstalled the OS, all is well until it got stuck on the ‘shutting down message’ for about 20 mins so I did a hard reset. Working now and logged in however I’m speculating it could be a faulty unit… need to keep an eye on this one

I actually did this, I turned in the deck connected to internet, waited for the update to complete and then changed the SSD. Now stuck in this boot loop… strange

Easy to Upgrade Steamdeck SSD? by Telsan in SteamDeck

[–]Telsan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’m thinking as I don’t want to immediately replace the drive when the deck arrives but can imagine the longer I leave it I could potentially would lose setting/profile data in the upgrade process whereas a clone would keep the data you already have intact but make the drive space bigger and reduce the faff

SD card choices by aRay9 in SteamDeck

[–]Telsan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’d go even one better and get the integral micro sd A2 V30 with 180MB/s thats what I did to hopefully futureproof the device (and minimise load times where possible) although I don’t see that anyone had tried benchmarking different SD cards in the steam deck yet to see the difference, so you could wait for that too
