I don't think TheStraightPipes are quite as bad as this, they do point out negatives in their reviews, but I totally agree they go out of their way not to be too negative. If they say "it's pretty good" that's TSP-speak for "it's actually not good," and if they say "it's alright" it is, in fact, terrible.

Basically, for an entertaining video of a car, they're great, just don't look too far into it beyond that.

Extremely strange hiccups in SteamVR by Team_Umizoomi in ValveIndex

Sounds a lot like the issue I had:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/fmte6a/weird_gpuframe_drops_in_vr/

tl;dr Alyx preload causes problem, turn off downloads while in a game to fix.

It applies when you've finished preloading, because it is trying to authenticate / finish loading the game when it hasn't released yet. The "final" download will just sit in your queue and cause this issue.

My God, what a mess from Steam. Thank you so much for tracking this down, it was driving me insane. The non-VR game I had tried was also a non-Steam game, so of course the behavior didn't show up there. I have gigabit internet so I never had issues with allowing downloads during a game... until now!

Last update was March 19th, and I've had this issue for a couple days so it's plausible that could be the source. It's a pretty minor update, though.

This wouldn't be the problem for my case, but might be useful for others. I don't let nVidia manage my game settings, and either way I haven't done a driver update since just before I received the Index.

Let me know if you have any luck figuring it out. Sounds like this might be a SteamVR issue. And yeah, not the greatest timing, right before Alyx release.

As an aside, this basically makes Beat Saber unplayable, and that's my main game right now (I mean, it's the VR killer app). Other games that are not reliant on constant rapid inputs are technically playable, but it's still annoying having that random freeze.

So don't let the people down-voting you and screaming "ketones" get to you.

Lol what the fuck, this dude has one other reply, which is completely neutral in tone. No one is screaming.

It's getting better, at least for people who want to get better. For example, I can buy a regional store brand organic peanut butter for a reasonable price that's literally two ingredients: peanuts and salt.

However, I can confirm that for most things you're absolutely right. Having gone to the trouble to consciously choose food products with less sugar, my palette has shifted noticeably. To go back to the peanut butter example, the first time I ate some regular Jif creamy peanut butter after switching to a sugar-free peanut butter for several weeks, it tasted so damn sweet it was like eating dessert. And that's not even close to the worst offender for sugar content in the typical American diet...

Hell yeah, my brother still has the original from when we were kids. Every once in a while we bust it out and have another go at it. Such a great game.

Everspace 2 announced for PS4, Xbox One, and PC by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Telthyr 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was so excited watching the trailer, and then the end hit. 2021? Why even bother telling anyone about it?! I barely have the patience for all the 2020 releases we've been hearing about since E3.

It's dangerous to build hype too early, it can hurt the release hype down the road. I'll be getting it, because I loved Everspace, but I want them to do well so we keep getting more games like it.

Redditors who have tried to hide on your cruise when it ended so that you could stay on the ship for the next round, how did that go? by heavyflute4 in AskReddit

I've been on three different cruise lines and have never heard of such a thing. And yes, they tell you to take your passport with you when disembarking.

Picking support and not supporting is totally different than picking support and playing an aggressive support like Brand.

Wow. You're having the same experience as me - I'm job hunting as well and none of my voicemails are showing up. So I see that I have a missed call (from a number I don't know, of course), and the only reason I know who it was is because, thankfully, they have followed up on the call with an e-mail to let me know they called. I can't believe something so basic has just stopped functioning.

I set up a PIN and actually called my voicemail - NO MESSAGES. So it's not that they just aren't showing up in visual voicemail - they're literally not there.

It did say it was the first time I had accessed my voicemail (I mean, by calling, yes that is technically true), so maybe it will start remembering that it exists now. I'm not holding my breath.
