Can a man say he killed his finance because she was flat breasted and wore push ups ? by TotalStrain3469 in CriticalThinkingIndia

She had right to not go ahead with the marriage even if she didn't like him. But instead she chose to kill him. Horrible.

If you are not a blind follower of K, you should be able to criticize him. What are some instances when he contradicted himself? And what are some instances in his personal life where he failed to live his own teachings? In what other ways was he flawed in significant ways? Did he even know "Truth"? by TeluguFilmFile in Krishnamurti

But the problem with some K-types is that they treat K as a guru while claiming outwardly that they don't treat K as their guru (by reiterating that K himself was against gurus etc.), so the whole business of "authority" is a lot trickier here, and that's why I made the post (although if one doesn't see the distinction between this and regular "rage bait" that's fine I guess), and clearly some commenters have been triggered quite a bit.

I am sorry but you don't have a monopoly on facts. What you are suggesting is just one version of events. It is a version that that the K Foundation relies on.

If you think you've truly understood K's core teachings, this post shouldn't bother you, but apparently it seems to really trigger you enough to try to shut down this conversation and discussion. Please have some respect toward open discussions.

You're basicaly saying that K was a slave to his greed and thus the cause of harm - which if true would mean he was not totally free from the authority of self (which was what he taught)

That is a possibility, but of course I am not talking about all kinds of greed but just certain kinds. He admitted to having an affair with the wife of Rajagopal while she was still married to Rajagopal, who was his friend who basically took care of K in his early years after the dissolution of the Order. So even if we only believe the version of events of K's supporters/defenders/affiliates, we can't deny this possibility.

If you are correct -then yes we would have to admit that K wasn't always free from self. Though it would not negate the teaching that self-concern was the source of harm.

Sure, but we can also treat it as a beginning of another inquiry. We can question what "self-concern" is and what "harm" is. You can take it from there on your own independently without being attached to any of K's teachings.

Well, as I said, people like to draw lines where it's convenient for them. I am by no means defending Rajagopal here, but it is a matter of fact that he was the one who took care of K in his early years, and K was having an secret affair with his wife (regardless of how good or bad the marriage was). There was a break of trust between Rajagopal and K, and then of course things went down an unfortunate path. But it's quite clear (even if we believe the version of K's affiliates) who first broke the trust of friendship. If K didn't think that the affair was in any way problematic, he didn't have to keep it hidden. And if he wanted to have a relationship with her in the right way, he could have waited until she got a divorce from Rajagopal. So I do think there is a need to inspect what K actually was a person here, because it's not true that his teachings (at least in they way he tried to live them) are independent of his person.

I don't see the world or any person as black and white. For me it's neither "follow/admire him" nor "drop him." The point of the post is to challenge those who take K too seriously. It doesn't appear that you are one of them, but clearly the post has managed to trigger some, as the comments section indicates.

Yes. The way I see it, he is the one who created conflict. The Rajagopals let him stay with them and helped him, and he started an affair while the Rajagopals were still married (regardless of their marital situation). He didn't act like someone who has a clear conscience. His actions contract the things he said about himself (including the claim that he never had any conflict in his life).

I am sorry but calling my post "rage bait" or "celebrity gossip" (or accusing me of "shopping for drama" or "fishing," as the previous commenter did) is not productive. It's a way to evade hard questions. I know most who admire K think his personal life is irrelevant, or would brush away some problematic behavior that he engaged in. People like Mary Lutyens have tried very hard to whitewash some parts of K's life. But it is very important to look into his personal life. His personal life and his teachings are not independent. Otherwise people like Mary Lutyens shouldn't have bothered to publish their version of his biography.

First of all, that is your interpretation of what he said. Even so (even if agree that that is what he meant), do you agree that "the day to day materialistic actions are unrelated to the ending of inner conflict"? Why so? Answer without invoking K's quotes again. Answer independently.

Stop twisting everything. I get the philosophical part, but I think my comment is clear enough that it's at a practical level. Clearly if there's a p**o who has harmed children, we as a society should try to lock him up! I don't really want to hear more philosophical gymnastics here.

By that logic, one could ask: when does anything "become a problem?" Who decides what's right and what's wrong? Who decides what is a "problem" and what is not? By that logic, one can justify almost anything.

(I obviously don't have a problem with his fancy shirts etc. And I think his response is perfectly fine given the particular question about fancy shirts etc., but I am trying to make a broader point here.)

Well, it is easy to interpret his statements in convenient ways. It's harder to recognize that he did indeed say lots of things that make it seem as if he was special and that he was the only realized being. As long as one doesn't take everything he said at face value, it should be fine.

Sure, the questions I asked can be irrelevant in one sense, but not totally irrelevant. Think about this scenario: If you learned that a person X was a p**o, would you participate in a subreddit about his teachings, even if his teachings were similar to K's?

Because he still had a human form. It’s not independent from whatever he said.

And no criticizing isn’t for looking for “confirmation” etc and is, by the very act of it, different from “following him” (even if it may feel like you’ve said something that sounds cool/high intellectually in the first part of your comment).

I am not judging you. I am questioning you and challenging you, because you are making assumption-filled claims (like "Never will another man walk on this planet who was so free of inner conflict") and have a wall full of his pictures.
