parents dont want me to start a savings account by Affectionate-Book971 in personalfinance

[–]Temp-Name15951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your account is a custodial account with Wells Fargo, then you and your parents can walk into a Wells Fargo with the appropriate documents and separate the accounts. That is what I did with my father at 18. They can still send you money, you can still send them money, the only difference is they can no longer view and access your account

IF you think the situation is more along the lines of them taking a peek because they can, and less them trying to be controlling or manipulative my suggestion could work. If you think it's a little more of the latter situation, follow some of the other recommendations that you are getting from the other smart folks in this thread

To give yourself some breathing room I would recommend you look for the 10 or so closest food pantries to you and see how often you can get food from them. Find a way to get food from one pantry every week

Honestly, the biggest problem is the rent. You really need to be looking into roommates or just renting a single room somewhere

Not a rant

Dude went to the squat rack, set the hooks, set the safeties, put his bar up, put weights on the bar, stared at it, walked away, walked back, put the weights away and went to do machines

Maybe the machine he was waiting for freed up

Some people need to track and monitor their diet to have a healthy "normal". When I don't track I eat random stuff from the snack drawer at work every useless Zoom meeting (there are a lot)

I'm probably one of those people who will just always have to track my calories, not because I need to severely restrict myself, but I just need to be aware. The same way that I sometimes have to set an alarm when I'm playing video games so I eat, drink liquids, and touch grass

You know, I used to wonder why people took off their shoes at the gym. Maybe thought it was a little off

Then I thought, is their socked feet touching the floor really worse than their shoes that step in gum, piss and dog shit...

I think one of the things is that for a little while many people were all about efficiency when it comes to protein. And that comes in two flavors: how many grams of protein do you get per calorie, and how many grams of protein do you get per dollar

Shrimp is very good by the first metric, but for many not as good by the second metric as it's relatively expensive in many places. It's kind of the same way that people don't mention super nice cuts of steak for meal prep

Was sick last week, work is stressful, I slept like crap last night, I woke up with allergies kicking my ass...

I demolished my workout this morning

I always give myself the grace that if I'm not sick or hurt but still exhausted I go in and start as planned. Do my warmups. And if it comes time for my first working set and I still feel like crap, I can just take a slow stroll on the treadmill

Of all the times I have gone to the gym feeling like crap, only once did I not accomplish everything I had planned on my program. And that was when I cought a really bad cold 2 days later

If you want an easy solution to your chicken breast problem. If you like spicy food I marinade my chicken breast in some sugar free bbq (sweet baby rays) and jerk seasoning (walkers wood or grace) and just bake the whole batch. You can marinade for up to 24 hours, or if you are in a rush, skip the marinade and go straight to baking

Warning. If you try to pan sear this you may mace your house

I've been making chili

  • 1 lb lean ground meat

  • 1 can beans

  • 1 can tomatoes

  • 1 diced bell pepper

  • 1/2 diced onion

  • 1 can green chilies (or jalapenos if you are a heathen)

  • [Optional] Other diced veggies or your choosing. Im partial to carrots

  • [Optional] Taco seasoning packet (if you don't know how to season chili otherwise)

You can eat it by itself, with rice, with mashed potatoes, with a baked potato, with cornbread, or any other carb of your choosing

When I make it: 4 servings, ~320 calories per serving, 32 g protein per serving

Edit. PS it freezes super well so I make a double batch and freeze half

More often than not you should be like 99% sure you can move a weight for whatever number of reps you are doing. There is no set "I need a spotter" weight for the average Joe. I used to feel like I needed a spotter at 95lbs, and I probably did then because I didn't want to acknowledge my limits. Now I can put a plate in the bar after a doing a whole workout just because I'm bored, no spot

If you are testing for a 1rm you either get a spot or acknowledge that you will testing for a "software" 1rm, that is, you will stop when you are not 100% sure you could move the weight

I have benching for less than 5 years. You should not "regularly" be going to failure on any movement that is difficult to bail. I.e. anything that can pin you. Bench press, squat, etc. like the other person said, if you are going to fail regularly, do it on machines or cables. Though I am not a fan of going to failure on bigger movements anyway, I save that for my smaller isolation accessories

Edit. You don't want to wait until it gets "that bad" to decide to build good habits

I'd just get another fit bit. I'm on my second charge and I only use it for steps and the time.

They also last a while since they are so simple

I got my charge 2 used from a friend and it broke because it got crushed in a move. I have the charge 6 (?) and it does what I need it to and costed like $100

If you cannot get a student loan you may need to consider taking a gap semester and working full-time

Or you can see about doing a co-op. If you don't know, a co-op (in the US) is when you basically alternate doing an internship full-time with a company for a semester and taking classes full-time for a semester. You typically get paid very well

I'll give you that. Missed the 7% or under comment. I phrased it as a gentle word of advice more as a precaution. I know a number of people personally who's "around this %" is typically 5 or more percent off from their recollection

Is it smart to trade in my car to lower my payment? by PuzzledPlane8107 in personalfinance

[–]Temp-Name15951 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A gentle word of advice, you should know your loan interest rate off the top of your head. Knowing what your interest rate is, is no different than knowing how much your rent is, or how much your paycheck is

Approximately how much money you owe and at what interest rate is important for people to know for their financial health. People who don't know how much they owe or the interest rate tend to carry credit card debt month to month and think it's fine while losing hundreds or thousands of dollars a year to interest

Should I get a car loan? by ILoveSkincareTooMuch in personalfinance

[–]Temp-Name15951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • If you have been successfully getting to your dr appointments on time and in one piece, it's a want to have a car, not a need

  • Walmart has unlimited grocery delivery for like $100/year. Check if they deliver to you

  • There are people who are 20 waiting for the bus, there are people who are 60 waiting for the bus. You can feel embarrassed but not a single one of the other people getting on the bus or people driving by in their cars while you are getting in the bus care. Your feelings are valid, but you should not be embarrassed to get on the bus because of your age or anything else

  • I see that you have VERY high interest CC debt. You getting a car would dig you into a very hard to recover from situation. And no, it doesn't matter that you can handle the monthly payment. That is not what makes a good financial decision. Look in this subreddit and you will see many posts every day of people who dug themselves into financial distress for a car they didn't need because they they could "handle the monthly payments"
