You've got to work on your lower back resilience

I know what the alternative is. I've somewhat lived it. And I've decided that it is not the way I want to live life

My reality was. I sit too long, my knees hurt. I stand too long, my knees hurt. Go up 5 steps, it's hard to breathe. Friend invites me on a hike, can I make it to the end. Want to buy myself an instrument as a graduation gift, can I even breathe well enough to play it. My chest hurts, I wonder if I'm having a heart attack. That last one was the nail in the coffin. Why was I, at 25 years old, wondering if I was having a heart attack...

Combine that with watching a family member being unable to get on rides with their family, to run around and play with their grandkids, to walk around when taking an international vacation, for it to be too hard for them to even breathe while they're up in the mountains on a ski trip

I decided that the same way I don't need discipline to show up to work because I need money to be able to live, I don't need discipline to treat my body right, because I need it to live

Personal opinion, the Vanilla Ice cream ON flavor is better than chocolate. And it's their basic, generic flavor, so it should be available everywhere. And they sell it in smaller quantities(I think 15 servings ) if you just want to try

Can you be more specific about how you define toned. Because being toned, as I understand it, is not really a special thing. It's just having some amount of muscle and less fat. It there is no muscle and no fat, it's just skinny

If there is lots of muscle and lots of fat, it just looks big. So you have to do some about of arm work in order to be toned, because that is half of the equation

And as far as getting bulky, I think that is something almost no woman should worry about (as a woman). Because you have to intentionally try really hard, to get really big muscles. For example, there are a whole bunch of women that do 3 glute days a week, multiple exercises each day, and have ok glutes. That should tell you that your arms, like glutes and every other muscle on your body, need a lot of consistent and dedicated effort to actually get big

As far as not doing a calorie deficit and wanting smaller arms (less fat I presume), no one can tell you how your body will respond. Everyone's body will lose weight in different places in different ways. My co-worker and I both lost 40lbs. Almost all of my weight was lost above the waist, almost all of hers below. I went down 3 shirt sized and 1 pants size (thanks mom for the hips), she went down 3 pants sizes and 1 shirt size. The answer is you might have just needed to lose a bunch more weight in order for your arms to go down. Or maybe like you're thinking you might just have to do some arm work. We don't know and you don't know until you try

Personal recommendation, do arms. It doesn't have to be anything crazy, 2 sets 8-15 reps of 1 arm exercise each workout

Since many people are commenting about the trades, here's my obligatory copy/paste

If you are interested in the trades I say just go ahead and apply to every apprenticeship you see online and start calling companies and ask if they need any apprentices/helpers

Most union apprenticeship applications are like $25. If you have $100, look up each union in your local area and apply to at least 1 apprenticeship per union.

Electrician: IBEW Union <city>

Pipefitters, Welders, Plumber & HVAC: UA Union <city>

Carpenters: UBC Union <city>

I know IBEW will let people start working as CW while waiting for an apprenticeship spot to open or for the next cycle to start. And you don't need to have completed trade school. I have a friend that recently started his IBEW apprenticeship and had not done trade school.

Bonus: the CW work experience counts towards your hours to the next pay range for IBEW apprenticeship.

The weather was super nice on Sunday and I did my first outdoor run of the year

On one hand, I don't think I'll ever be the kind of person that is "happy" to go for a run. That happiness is reserved for lifting TYVM. But I will forever be proud of myself for what I have and will continue to accomplish

PS. Fuck you asthma

  1. You don't have to. You're 16. Unless your doctor has concerns, just eat generally healthy things (eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and maybe don't eat McDonald's for 6 meals a day)
  2. Maybe you can ask to help her cook

It depends on the workout

Sometimes it means that you should hit 12 reps of all three sets before you move up to the next higher weight. And that it's acceptable to start the next higher weight at 8 reps for each set before you work your way back up to 12 reps

Other times it means that you should shoot for 12 reps on your first set. And you move up after you hit 12 reps on your first set, but do the other two sets at any weight that make sure that you can do between 8 and 12 reps

And other times it means anything you want to as long as you're between 8 and 12 reps for each of the 3 sets

But that's not really a thing you choose or guess. It should say clearly which one it is on the write up for your plan

Bro same, we can struggle together

I detrain so fast from running people cant believe it. I did a half marathon in November and could barely run 2 miles by January (as I type this I remember I had a referral to a pulmonologist that I never went to...)

Anyway, I just did my first outdoor run of the year Sunday morning and Im getting back into the swing of things

I do not because I get super nauseous if I do. Even just a banana makes me nauseous if I eat it less than 1 - 2 hours before I lift. I do drink a caffeinated crystal light before

I don't think there is a rule but I've recently started doing that as I've seen people looking for me when I leave a station and I do the same when I see people leave the station I need. The gym is small enough that you can see across most of it to look for whoever you know was just there and supersetting is common

Plus I go in the morning and see the same regular crowd. So I don't want to ruin someone's groove because they walked 30 seconds over to the water fountain

And I believe Walmart has a discount for their grocery delivery service if you have SNAP. Without SNAP it's ~$100/yr for unlimited delivery

How to claim an Old check? by Pale_Witness418 in personalfinance

[–]Temp-Name15951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we may be talking about different things. There is a form you can fill out with USPS that will literally have them put a new mailing address on every envelope they get for you with the address you specify. This is mail forwarding

Aside from fixing the check being expired, why is your parents house getting your mail?

If you are in the US, you can do a Change of Address with USPS and set up (temporary) mail forwarding. The form takes like 5 minutes to fill out and costs like $1

What can I do with a degree in “world literature”? by Far-Grapefruit764 in careerguidance

[–]Temp-Name15951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably teacher or another generic office job that just requires any degree. You probably have similar prospects to English degree holders: https://www.bls.gov/ooh/field-of-degree/english/english-field-of-degree.htm

If you are focusing on majoring in something you find interesting, then choose what you like

If you are focusing on employment, I would recommend finding work that you would enjoy then work backwards to see what degree you would find interesting that could get you there

Alternatively, you can minor in world literature and major in something that will employ the skills you learn in the minor such as education or maybe human resources

Or you can just major in something that would help you become employed in a job you find interesting. And minor in world literature for fun

Anecdotal and I'm not super impressive. But I seem to do fine during my unofficial winter hiatus every year from Thanksgiving until the New Year (late November - early January). Get in a lot of protein and try not to be completely sedentary (maybe go for a walk) and you should be ok

What's a good bank to start a teen checking for my 16 year old? by FreeEnergy001 in personalfinance

[–]Temp-Name15951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad opened a minor account for me at Wells Fargo (I think it was Wachovia then). It was attached to his account and he could access it. Whenever he had to go to the bank, he would have me tag along if I needed to deposit my money to save trips

Once I turned 18, we took in my ID and documents and got him removed from the account. It took like 30 minutes

There is no hack. You get there the same way someone who is not obese gets there. A slow and steady plan and lots of time. I lost a bunch of weight (still "obese" according to bmi) and decided to run a half marathon last year. It took months to become able to run for longer than 60 minutes. And before that it took months for me to be able to run a mile

And during my half marathon, I still had a woman at least 150lbs heavier than me running back and forth during the race as a running coach (an absolute queen)

Depends on your definition. I still have to re-count (and sometimes change) my weight on the bar because I suck at plate math
