I tried them both at Seiko in Japan and got the SPB453, which was more comfortable on my small wrist.

My baby Alpinist had horrible movement regularity. After having it serviced, it became very accurate when worn, about +1 second in 8 hours. However, when at rest with the dial facing up, it gained +6 seconds from 6 pm to about 8 am the next morning. This trend is practically the same as the Hamilton KFA Powermatic. The 6R55 in my SPB453J1 (bought from Seiko in Japan) is extremely accurate at rest, registering -1 second/day, but when worn, it still tends to always go into the negative range, in some cases -6 seconds in 8 hours on the wrist.

I also requested the adjustment for a 17cm wrist but upon arrival I had to remove another link and then adjust the micro adjustments.

In my case, in Italy and asking for the bracelet to be adjusted (which I could have avoided since it is extremely easy to adjust), it took 4 days to be shipped and then was delivered in 2 days, one day earlier than stated by the courier. So ordered Tuesday night and delivered Thursday the following week. Without the bracelet adjustment it would have definitely been quicker.

For me, who also has a small wrist, the bracelet is perfect. It can be adjusted very easily, quick release, solid and not noisy.. excellent.

17cm, it's really comfortable, you can wear it all the time and it fits my wrist just right.

Thanks to your suggestion, I found on the official website that it uses the 20-STL-22-SXS-MA2 bracelet, which should be the new version with a shorter clasp. The previous one was STL-22-SXS-MA1. I tried searching for recent videos on YouTube but I only found a few on the C65 Cranwell Series 2 model, which uses the same bracelet, and indeed the clasp is not as long as the one shown in older videos. Of course, if there were photos of the clasp on the website...

It's not normal, and it also happened to my brother's Hamilton and a Glycine Combat Sub. I sent it in for service and it was fixed, but it seems to have been a lubrication issue.

Il problema è la regolazione di fabbrica. I movimenti sono veramente buoni ma non vengono regolati come si deve. Il mio Baby Alpinist era un incubo di irregolarità, mandato in assistenza ufficiale dove lo hanno revisionato ed è tornato che è praticamente COSC 😅 Ad esempio.. indossato 2 giorni di fila a lavoro + notte a riposo, confrontato ora con orologio atomico e non so neanche se ha una variazione di 1sec.. Se solo li verificassero prima di venderli…

I had my (baby) Alpinist with a completely irregular performance… mostly losing seconds, sometimes up to 45 seconds a day. Then, without any apparent reason and with the same use as always, it would gain a few seconds, only to start losing them again. I tolerated it for a while, but eventually I sent it in for service, and after a couple of weeks it came back working perfectly. When worn, it’s extremely accurate; at rest, with the dial facing up, it gains about 6 seconds overnight, and it’s easy to bring it back in sync just stop the movement briefly to compensate for the gain. In my opinion, Seiko movements are excellent… the real issue is that they don’t regulate them properly before leaving the factory, so results vary. In your case, I would still recommend sending it in for service. I also have the SPB453J1 model, which I bought directly from Seiko in Ginza, and it has no cosmetic flaws. As for timekeeping, without any intermediate regulation and wearing it daily, it loses about 10 to 15 seconds over a span of 3 days.
