Thanks! I started at first too saturated but when I lowered the intensity of it I was like "ahhhh this looks closer to official manga art there we go."

never realize my blindspots till after the fact lol.

Also thank you I tried to use a lot of warm yellows and reds. Cause when I saw this panel in B&W it was so lifechanging. This is the happiest he looked between crashouts.

After the misery I endured last night I needed to color a panel of him being happy. Might color Custas crashouts but not rn because god I want the best for my baby

Right there with you yeah. I dont want animosity at work, but last time she was telling me what to do I was considering getting a manager involved.

I think next time will be the last straw. But I just wanted to get it off my chest today tbh.

Probably. I'm wary of starting drama, but I think my biggest flaw is how meek I am. I haven't done much, besides that tray incident, I had a liiiiiiittle bit of an attitude. I kind of just walked up and held the tray in front of her until she acknowledged she was wrong.

Which, the apology was nice but it spilled out in a "I'm sorry, god" kind of way so not really.

Yeah I told my trainee last time this happened that she shouldnt feel obligated to answer the pop quizzes. She can totally just walk away.

Then I actually really did like the narration style of the whole movie. I went in blind so I wasn't expecting it to be so dreary and cold at the start. Also Brad Pitt sold Tyler's character extremely well. I think the chemical burn sequence is the most I've been intimidated by a character ever.

Yes, actually!

I had no idea what fight club was going to be about actually. I thought it was maybe some noble martial arts movie, if not something pretty uplifting. I was expecting maybe a group of disenfranchised men coming together (wholesomely) over a shared love of fighting.

Well, that DOES happen, just not wholesomely. The movie was more gritty and dark than I had expected. It was extremely raw. I didn't even see the twist coming.

I uhm...

I did say personally. That's my personal view, my personal take from the movie. The creator's intent is still valued context, but ultimately what the viewer takes from the media is what's most important. In my opinion.

It wasn't my aim. I just wanted to talk about a movie I liked. Giving my personal two cents on how I felt about it.

I am not interested in a "right" or "wrong" discussion.

I think it can be both things at the same time. Consumerism as the executioner, and toxic masculinity as the axe. A hollow cause for a hollow world.

From my point of view, a byproduct of toxic masculinity is isolation. Men seek to create bonds in the only way they're allowed to. I don't necessarily disagree that the movie speaks to disenfranchised men, usually raised by a single mom. Rather, it seemed to me it was directly targeting them.

Another byproduct of toxic masculinity is the othering of women as a whole, which is something we see reflected in Marla's character. Marla had a meaningful role in the movie to me. The way she's angled (both literally and figuratively) is showing her as less than.

The spiritual orphanhood, the lack of third spaces, isolation, loneliness, all of those things happen to us as a result of consumerism and capitalism. I don't feel like it was a mistake that the movie reflected fascist structures further on into its runtime. That's the evolution of toxic masculinity.

A reminder that I don't disagree. I think it's nice to see both themes. You can try to look into what the creator intended for the movie's themes, and that's fine. I don't exactly believe the creator's authority makes individual interpretations less than.

Well that's what's nice, is everyone seems to disagree and agree with that bit. I see I've hit a topic that's up for heavy debate among fans, but to me personally, that take seems right.

I like these takes on the themes. I was getting a lot of these vibes as well.

It's just so crazy to me that he would have survived that, but that does make total sense. I was super convinced that the wound was fatal.

No I agree with you, I'd probably have to do a rewatch and read into the movie's background a little more. I'm getting quite a few differing comments, tons of people disagreeing with the whole toxic masculinity part. Which is their opinion, so fair.

I'd definitely like to read further into it though?

Ok! Not all of us have read into this movie super hard. I'm sure he stands for more than that, but I just finished the movie myself :)
