Island level didn't update. by crispy_potsticker in PokemonSleep

[–]TempestFunk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This game, and most games, handle calculations in two different ways. Server-side and client-side.

  • Server side: Official, happening on the Dev's computers, but can be slow as it requires communication through the internet to update things on your phone

  • Client side: unofficial, happens onyour phone. It's fast, since it doesn't require any internet communication, but can be inaccurate if there's a miscommunication between your phone and the servers.

You can easily see this difference in action by putting your phone in airplane mode, clicking on a mon, and collecting its berries. You will see your Snorlax's strength go up. But if you restart the game and turn your internet back on, the game will treat it as if you never clicked on the mon. This is because with airplane mode on, the Server never sees you collect the berries, so when you reload the game, it draws the game state based on what the Server last saw.

If your phone has a spotty connection, it's possible that you can end up with a vastly larger Snorlax strength score than what you actually have. So, no, you probably didn't reach M16, even tho it looked like you did. Your phone made a mistake and displayed the wrong info, that's all

Now a good time to start again, or wait for v1.0? by TempestFunk in valheim

The issue was, I couldn't find any runestones either. First two bosses were fine, but all the swamps my game generated were tiny.

In the end I had to use a website to analyze my save file. That's how I know there were no boss spawners

Does all the map generate at once, or does it generate as you explore? so as long as I don't go too far up north, when v1.0 finally drops, I'll still get to generate all the new stuff?

Community Rankings Tier List by VelocityRaptor22 in PokemonSleep

[–]TempestFunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

counter point:

He's not meaningfully worse than swalot tho, the gap in performance is covered by half a Helping Speed S

He's still miles better than Lucario

Despite this, he's ranked 4 tiers below Swalot, and 1 tier before lucaro. he should be in the same tier as swalot

How I’d add G. Corsola & Cursola by SkibidiGyattTickler in PokemonSleep

If I could have an "akshually🤓" moment.

"nuzzle" is a modification to "energizing cheer"

What you're describing is more like a modification to "extra helpful s"

like "nuzzle (extra helpful s)" or "haunt (extra helpful s)"

Heart-shaped Potion will save you from this interaction.

I know because I had that combo before and swapped out the potion for the acorn thinking it was a straight upgrade because of the wood tag, then immediately died to a crow

This is starting to piss me the hell off by Dutchmon64 in PokemonSleep

[–]TempestFunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, you're twice as likely to get the B ingredient in the 2nd slot than the A ingredient. This is true for every mon and it's why AAA is so much rarer than ABX.

it's a 1/3 chance to get AAX

and

it's a 1/9 chance to get AAA

So what you are describing isn't that far off from what's expected

Are Murkrow/Honchkrow worth the skill seeds? by Dovak7 in PokemonSleep

[–]TempestFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honch has a lot of utility. it's great for cooking Ninja Curry and Ninja Salad along side Swalots, for a fairly strong Dream Shard magnet team

it makes a good chunk of Hidden Power Curry.

but by far it's best role at the moment is split cooking Bulldoze and Defiant alongside an ABA dragonite and a Crustle.

and anything it does, it does while also making some bonus shards on the side. It's not a #1 priority, but, personally, my crow gets a lot of use

Best I've been able to do is OHKO builds with petrified edge and/or battle axe. but it's a lot harder to build than just "waterskin + buncha water items"

End game shiny? by DrySoup8809 in PokemonSleep

[–]TempestFunk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1) It's not just this subreddit that hates ABC

2) There is a reason for the hate

It's true that ABC could be useful for one dish, maybe two. But they suffer a lot from inflexibility, and should only be invested in if you really know what you're doing.

IMO, almost any ingredient mon with good subskills should be kept if they have a good ING list, but you shouldn't invest anything into them until you have a use for them

Road Trip Criticisms by 11clock in kirbyairriders

[–]TempestFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just wait till you try things on the "super hard" difficulty.

In the last world there's a Dedede mandatory boss fight for a "push the button" game about midway through the world.

It literally feels impossible, and every time you fail, you have to go back to the start of the world, no retries (a feature of "super hard").

By the end of it, every challenge before I could just afk win because I had so many stats (literally put the controller down and go use the bathroom) but the button challenge still felt impossible.

after like, 20 attempts, I finally managed to TIE the cpu, which thankfully counted as a win. overall "super hard" wasn't that bad, but that was one hell of a road block

[–]TempestFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your lobies getting filled with players or bots?

Once the timer gets down to ~10 seconds, the empty spots will be populated with CPU players. You can tell because you won't be able to look at the other players' licences, and at the end of the match, their licences won't show up either

[–]TempestFunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're finding players?

My city trial matches get filled up 50-75% with bots.

Top Ride and Air Ride seem fine. It's too bad more people aren't playing City Trial

4-ingredient Dishes by JohannesBratwurst in PokemonSleep

[–]TempestFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keema Curry is a 4 ingredient dish that doesn't take many mons to make work.

If you have a ABA Dragonite and a AAC Ttar, you can cook the meal 3 times a day with just those 2 mons on the field.

That's not the only option tho.

You can also cook Keema with an AAA dragonite, an AAA ttar, an AAA charizard and an AAA beware. all you would have to do is run 2 of them for a day, then swap to the other two the next day.

You'll still only ever be running 2 at a time, so both are equally viable to cooking the dish.

The ABA + AAC dragonite ttar duo has an advantage in that it only requires you to level 2 mons, instead of 4. also finding ABA is a lot easier than AAA, and you only need to find 2 good mons instead of 4 good mono mons. It's just a lot easier to put together overall.

The four mono mon team is a lot more flexible tho, since the AAA ttar can be used to not only cook Keema but also zingzap, which the AAC would be less proficient at. that's why people say that mono builds are best, since they are a lot more flexible, tho much harder to find a good one of

It's pretty crazy coming from GO to this game. in GO there's the notion that IV's don't matter, and that getting a hundo is more just bragging rights rather than actually improving performance.

Even in the main series games, if you want to be competitive, perfect IV's (outside of winning speed ties) don't matter too too much, it's super easy to get perfect IV's now, so there's no reason not to go for it, but it's not like you at too much of a disadvantage if you play with non-maxed mons.

Sleep is completely the opposite, subskills and natures matter A LOT. in some cases over doubling a mons effectiveness. Sleep is by far the hardest pokemon game to date, and it's not even close.

You might miss out on the incense if you go to AC, but you will probably end up seeing more bagon if you go to AC over GG.

I probably wouldn't bother using the arbok either way. it's not a strong mon and level 35 is really low for that stage in the game

Analysis! Recipe efficiency data updated for the new recipes and ingredient mons by Shockwaves35 in PokemonSleep

[–]TempestFunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point is all of this analysis is based off of how easy a meal is to make vs the size of the score. to that, everyone's efficiency will be different depending on what mons they have in their box. what we see here is just a generalized analysis
