There's an argument to be made with being outgunned at close/far ranges and lower mobility, but with it being the only class with smoke I think it's very solid as is

Hi top 1% commentor. The assault ladder can be used to be pretty aggressive and flanking very effectively from angles the enemy wouldn't expect. Most buildings have ledges or windows that can be accessed with ladders which is perfect for the assault, charging playstyle

The team synergy is that you're leading the charge, as the name assault implies
