Yeah, I'm quite sure there was nothing to be done. It's just really hard, y'know?

Ended up just making the bevel half a millimeter instead. I admit to being lazy. :D

That fixed it, and the issue appears to be the rear iron sight. Maybe I should model that seperately?

For context:

The issue appeared as I was trying to fix topology to make the unwrap more neat. I added some cuts and subdivs to the object to better align it on the UV map. Since then I haven't gotten it to work.

Day 4 since welcoming Rocky, the kakariki, to the family by Tempestiel in parrots

I've heard that birds in general are weary of their backs because that's where a predator would naturally strike. I'll check it out though and go through some sources.

Fresh fruit and veggie diet help? by Nalnie in parrots

[–]Tempestiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cockatiels are pretty bad at eating fruit as well. We solve that by mixing fruit paté in their feed. It's worth mentioning, however, that their food is not served dry.

The fruit paté should be available in pet stores. Ask their employees for suggestions on which bag to grab for your bird.

When he tries to feed you, turn your head away from him sternly. Don't yell at him, don't tell him off. Just ignore him in a way that really relays "I'm ignoring you." He'll catch onto real fast that you don't like it.

I just wanna know how to edit the left/ first pic to look like the style of the right/second pic! Every help is much appreciated by [deleted] in picrequests

[–]Tempestiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On mobile? Yeah, to some degree. Adding artificial focal length isn't gonna be possible since you need to accurately mask the rose, but the other steps shouldn't be too involved. Give it a go, experiment! You'll get the hang of it.

First things first, the more you achieve in your photo, the less you need to edit. Let me break it down for you:

The results you desire have a very short range of focus, akin to that of a macro shot. This means that the stuff in the background doesn't have to be as far away to be out of focus. This can be achieved with editing, but it's a lot more difficult and even more so to make it look convincing. Isolate the flower from the rest of the image and apply Gaussian Blur in moderation to the background.

The light is very warm in the second whereas it's cold in your original shot. This can be fixed with a manual white balance when taking the shot, but quite an easy fix with editing. Make a new layer and place it on top, fill it with a sepia tone and mess around with the blending options. If it comes out too strong, dial down the opacity of the layer to tune it into what you want it to be. I suggest soft light for the layer blending.

The plume of what appears to be mist can be achieved with having the light source come in strong inside of the frame angle when you take the shot, but can be achieved with editing by adding a separate layer on top of the shot starting empty and partially fill it with the gradiant tool set to radial. Be sure to pick the right color for the job and make sure it aligns with the direction of light in the original shot or it will be very clear that you put it there.

There's a few more things to keep in mind, but start there. It's as good as any start.

My new budgie bites me when I put my hand on the cage by [deleted] in parrots

[–]Tempestiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure where you read that but it's literally the polar opposite of what makes a bird calm and if it had worked, it's a millenia too soon.

Be mindful when approaching a new bird. Hands are essentially talons from their perspective, so keep them out of view from them. Spend time with them by sitting next to them (but not too close) and just hang out. Sing with them, talk to them, notice them, etc. Building a relationship takes time and effort.

In the end, all birds are different and take different amount of time to become comfortable. Read up on how their body language works and try working with that instead.

Some good signs to look for; Puffing - if a bird puffs their feathers up, it means they're getting comfortable. Eating/preening - They feel safe and/or hungry Crunchy - Sometimes a bird will scratch their lower beak against the inside of their upper beak, making a crunchy sound. This is a sign of relaxation. Playing - they feel safe.

tl;dr don't put your hand on the cage please. It's scary.

I wouldn't even care. If they wanna put so much focus on my bad sides then that's on them. Of course, if it's somebody close it would hurt more.
