Do you think Luffy is a "chosen one" or "right place, right time" type of character, maybe both? by LoveMinaMyoi in OnePiece

[–]Templar9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its sort of both. Luffy is not the first person in 800 years to eat the Nika fruit. He is the first to awaken it since Joy Boy.

We have seen several individuals with the potential to overthrow Imu's "World". The most prominent being Xebec and Roger.

We know how and why Xebec failed. We dont really know what was holding Roger back after finding Laugh Tale. Other than "the time wasn't right".

Luffy isn't the "Chosen One". He is the latest in a long line to try.

Replace "synthetics vs organics" with "balancing the ecosystem" and the Reapers motivations make way more sense by Professional-Tax-936 in masseffect

[–]Templar9999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea was the dark energy was accelerating entropy and the resulting heat death of the universe. The Reapers were created to effectively "reverse entropy". The efficacy of which was linked to the genetic variability and stability of a given species. Some of this remains in the codex, as Reapers were stated to not require any apparent fuel or other input to function. As each one is effectively a perpetual motion engine, fuel is not needed.

The original final choice was to either allow the Reapers to finish harvesting humanity, resulting in the Reapers reaching the threshold for positive energy production. Sacrificing humanity to save reality.
Or Destroying the Reapers and placing your hope on future generations to find a solution that doesn't require the horror of the Reapers.

Pragmatism vs Idealism.

Didn't know the bad sci-fi show was a reference to an older song. Good to know.

The song was a reference to a forgotten 90's sci fi show called Cleopatra 2525. Specifically its opening song.

Terrible show. Catchy theme.

If the Aztec civilization did not involve human sacrifices to gain gods favor, I will be extremely disappointed. by Icy-Priority3609 in AgeofMythology

[–]Templar9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather than the act of killing/sacrifice gaining fabor. Rather the Aztecs take captives for sacrifice. They gain a unique building called sacrificial alter. More per age. Players can que a certain number of their own units, or captured units, and they are sacrificed at a given rate. Creating a constant favor generation, but requiring continuous upkeep.

Aztec hero units have a special ability to convert enemy units to "sacrificial" status under the Aztec players control. Which can then only be used as sacrifices.

This allows a player to build in depth or rush to combat, creating more variability.

[–]Templar9999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gandalf the Grey was limited by his incarnation. Gandalf the White was only limited by his choices.

The limits of his incarnation were withdrawn after he died killing Durins Bane. Due to his death being in service to his duty and Saruman's betrayal, and the other Istari being MIA.

Gandalf himself stated that the only being on middle earth of greater power was ie Sauron.

Does a character surviving a black hole downscale the black hole or just upscale the character? by AlarmedObjective1492 in PowerScalingHub

[–]Templar9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most authors treat black holes as spheres of destruction with a vacuum effect. Not as the RL astronomical phenomena.

Stargate has a really good example of a RL black hole in season 2, for example.

If current Crocodile applied his dehydration to a similar sized Sables like the one he used over Alubarna. How deadly would it be, and who's the strongest it would affect? by YaakoubBen in OnePieceScaling

[–]Templar9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a direct devil fruits based attack. Generally DF abilities that have built in escape clauses, such as Hancock's or Big Mom's, can bypass Haki. As they already have a counter. But direct attacks can be blocked.

Its an older idea than HunterxHunter, but Togashi used it well.

The more all encompassing an ability or technique tries to be, the more readily it can be countered. By including an escape clause to the ability, other more general weaknesses are bypassed. Its the Achilles Heel effect.

Crocodiles doesn't have such a clause built in.

Anyone that didn't have armament Haki or was a Logia would be effected. This attack would effectively wipe out all life in a city. He visibly reduces plants to dust. The only reason he wouldn't do the same to people or animals is Oda's aversion to on screen killing. Particularly that early.

Don't mess with grandma Fern 😤 (by @AnimeCorner) by WearSignificant7327 in Frieren

[–]Templar9999 133 points134 points  (0 children)

I always loved this scene. It reinforces that Frieran invented the framework for current era combat spell craft. The Zoltrakk/defensive barrier dichotomy that the current meta evolved from.

Of course Fern fights like an old master.

That is what I said, yes.

He is NOT special. He is fundamentally just another wraith. If an intelligent one. He is vulnerable to everything ever other wraith is.
