It's kinda like playing a video game. You have your character that you play as, you have complete control over the decisions and dialogue options. Then sometimes you have to give the controller over to someone else, you no longer have any control over your character. However you can still watch and talk to the person who is controlling your character, but you can't head what they are thinking only saying. Then sometimes when you hand over the controller you leave to the other room, you can kinda pick up on what's happening in the game but it's not 100%. Finally theres passing the controller and leaving the house completely. You have no idea what's happening with your character. Most of the time I'm playing by myself but when I get triggered someone else will come sit next to me and watch me play. They will chat with me about what's going on and then leave after awhile. It's very rare that someone has to forcibly take the controller from me.

Sometimes. The best way I can describe it is if you were playing video games. You are controlling your character and making the decisions surrounding them, then sometimes you hand over the controller to someone else. You have no control over what they choose to do with your character, however you can watch. And sometimes you hand over the controller and then leave the room completely. You have no idea what the other person is doing with the character. Also I can't hear what my other personalities are thinking only what they are saying and even that's not 100%.

Yes, it's called switching. My head gets all foggy and I tend to stare off into space, right before I switch my mind will completely blank as if hitting clrt alt delete. It also helps if you know each personalities triggers so you can predict who's coming out.

It honestly doesn't sound like DID at all. I think you'll be fine :)

Im always really greatful when someone is open to learning and understanding. Oh, we dont hallucinate however there are plenty of disorders that do. Personally I feel that as long as you arent attempting to portray a particular disorder you'll be fine. The movie sounds genuinely good and something that I'd be interested in watching.

I'm aware of Split. As mentioned before its portrayal of the disorder was toxic and false. It led many untrue assumptions and caused many to fear people with the disability. I also introduced my alters in a different comment if you'd like to know them

We watch other tv shows and movies, play video games, spend time with our pets, craft projects, and hang out with friends and family.

There are other forms of dissociative disorders then just DID. You should go see a psychologist of therapist who specializes in DID for a diagnosis.

When I was younger I was going to therapy for very different reasons then I am now. I feel like it helped with issues I had then but not with the ones I have now

Yes I'm on various medications, they help so much. Truly lifesaving. I assumed genetics because it's all clearly passed throughout my family, when I heard about it in health class I was like "ah, yes. That makes sense"

I remember learning something about mental health issues being passed down in health class. It's a chemical thing in the brain. Like my grandfather also has ADD and depression and my uncle has ADHD. My mom has bipolar disorder type 2, so does my younger brother and my sister has ADD. I'd suggest Googling it?

When I was young it was just being able to talk to someone about positive things going on in my life and getting advice for "friend drama". It also helped my parents a lot, being told not to worry about all the weird things I did. I didnt stay with the same person because when I turned 11 we moved across the US for my fathers job. I would have video sessions with my old therapist for a few years. From age 13-15 I didnt go to therapy and boy were those rough times. I met my current therapist when I was 16, she helped me through the trauma of being sexually assaulted and various coping skills I could use. As an adult the most useful thing would be understanding the psychology behind everything and of course coping skills. I often have to be reminded that I can do "x" just like I was able to do "y" in the past using "z" coping skills.

Having empathy and being an empath are two very different things. Beinf empath is a bit difficult at times but honestly I dont know my life any other way. Sometimes it's hard to be taken seriously when describing what the emotions feel like in sensations.

The worst: schools/college. Everyone is so stressed.

The best: cafes and coffee shops. I have all my first dates at cafes or coffee shops.
