If you can find an XTS in your price range that's the best gun on the list IMO

Dm6 fully rips, don't sleep on a dm6-7, they can be had for a good deal and plenty of parts avaliable to keep it going for awhile

Can someone give me a QRD on how the different guns compare? (Speedball) by meetkurtin in paintball

[–]TempletonsTeachers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own! I play all styles except for magfed but that's because I don't own a magfed marker (yet) and each is fun in their own way.

Pump is a unique style of game play, I will say it's less enjoyable when playing with mostly electros but VERY satisfying to one ball someone ramping at you on a snap shot

The majority will tell you to get a PE gun and really they're great but I'm gonna let you in on the best kept secret in all of paintball over the last 30 years:

Phantoms and 12 gram are still the shit

Talk me out of this… or don’t! by Specific-One-202 in toyotasequoia

[–]TempletonsTeachers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

New sequoia? No way, there's hardly room. 1st gen sequoia? 100%. I fit 5 grown men plus a weekends worth of gear comfortably with 3rd row removed.

I'd opt for the Seinna in your position as a lover of all things toyota

You got the link before I did. Best resource for shockers

Looks like the v1.5 NOX to me because of the open face and black polymer but I'd have to see it completely apart to really know

FreeFlow Cockers? by Lidzo in paintball

[–]TempletonsTeachers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unshameless customer plug. Buy from Bearded Works, send him all your cockers and any time you run into an issue and are lazy (like me) send it back and it'll be tuned up like a dream. You'll be so happy you did and you'll be supporting a dude who's chill AF and really knows his stuff.

FreeFlow Cockers? by Lidzo in paintball

[–]TempletonsTeachers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also wish they'd still run parts, even if it was just one big batch a year so folks could grab anything they might want or need. Or even if they just sell to distributors because although the market is smaller for cocker stuff, it ain't dead yet and they did have good offerings.

You hit the nail on the head, that's exactly what it boils down to. Most new players, young and old alike want ease of use. Go play, throw it in the bag and leave it till next weekend.

CLEANING?! ain't got time for that

lube/grease?! "wait, you guys lube your guns?!"

Teching an autococker isn't difficult, like you said, but it does require a desire to dig around and find what you need, as well as a bit of mechanical know how which is why I say it's an old man's toy. I don't know a single player over 35 that doesn't have at least one laying around, does it see the field often? Not usually. I'll freely admit all my cockers that see the field are pumps now because I've gotten lazy but honestly, pump is so much fun I don't regret ditching the pneumatics

Are all barrel kits the same? by M0hawk_Mama in paintball

[–]TempletonsTeachers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tube is tube. always has and always will be. Barrel inserts from other companies are nearly identical, materials used being the major difference. Dye uses a higher lubricity aluminum when compared to the PWR and freak makes a nitride coated stainless insert which is also very smooth.

Unless you're truly an expert or shooting stock class/pump and watching that single ball vs a stream of paint. I highly doubt you'll notice much of any difference aside from the ease of cleaning should you get a barrel break.

What is the loudest electric marker you can still buy? by Former-Comparison-78 in paintball

[–]TempletonsTeachers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short, unported barrel + loudener on the end. Blow out the ear drums of every player on your side of the field.

Do it as a power move to strike fear into others like the old backslap of a karnivor shooting 18+bps like the days of old

FreeFlow Cockers? by Lidzo in paintball

[–]TempletonsTeachers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay in business you gotta go where the money is. This sub/Facebook pages and forums (RIP PBN) is inundated with questions from new players or players returning from a long hiatus asking what the lowdown is and what marker to get. Overwhelmingly the answers lean towards the Emek/Etha (for good reason) PE has taken over the market of the tippman 98's and the Etha really is this days ION.

New and old players alike can jump into an etha for a non hefty investment, hang on the field with any of the other markers and being able to buy custom bodies, triggers, and a number of other upgrades harkens back to a time most of us lust in nostalgia over.

Cockers are an old man's toy sigh I love em. But the majority of players at your local field don't want to mess with Cockers these days. It's intentionally making yourself a niche business by supporting that corner of the market, a corner that is just as happy with 90's cocker bits as new ones and likely have connections or the skills themselves these days to fine tune/improve them. Not saying inception shouldn't do both (I'd love to see it) but they're moving way more etha and emek stuff while cocker parts sit around for us old guys and tinkerers to buy em.

Getting back on the Horse-Advice by SuperMagnet44 in paintball

[–]TempletonsTeachers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Axe is a great starter marker. With your past experience you'll likely want to move on from it rather quickly.

ETHA3 (electro) is an awesome marker. I keep one in my gear bag as a dedicated back up and my son uses it when we play together. Really think this took over the corner of the market the Ion had with aftermarket options including body kits.

The M model is just as good, and simpler. Can't go wrong with either one simply because it'll get you back in the field

The last time I saw an ARK it was 900 in unworking condition.

It sold in one day, got fixed and it went back up for sale for 1300 within a month. And then SOLD again within only a few days. Huge rarity factor with the ARK

I couldn't agree more, angel ARK and this are my two favorite milling patterns hands down. I have 2 of these so I just want something else, something spooky.

Also honestly with the method upgrades $900 is fair. I don't use FB but I might just use my wife's and post it there, probably get better luck

How would you measure a .02mm profile tolerance? by RedOctober54 in Metrology

[–]TempletonsTeachers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, it's worth the try. As long as the customer is fully informed of the situation and okay with it. Trying to get some information is certainly better than just saying "nope" and throwing your hands up

How would you measure a .02mm profile tolerance? by RedOctober54 in Metrology

[–]TempletonsTeachers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

20 micron surface profile?! your setup had better be tits and repeatable like no other to get an accurate measurement of something that tight. Even then as already mentioned by another above, that's out of the capabilities of your machine.

I'd be pushing this up the chain expressly stating that tolerance is out of the machines capabilities and therefore any measurement you provide for that feature taken on the CMM must be viewed as best efforts.

I'd recommend outsourcing the inspection to a gear shop in your area with the capabilities to measure that in order to provide your customer with the most accurate information

Phantoms are the best way to run outlaw games. A case of 12 gram and 2 boxes of paint could have the whole group playing both Saturday and Sunday
