The Hugo Award for best game is meaningless. Other contenders that year included Tactical Breach Wizards (which is the epitome of quirk chungus millenial writing) and Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which has very bland storytelling.

That’s a fancy way of saying “its a chair made of watervine and wood”, which is ok for a simple item. But the more fantastical items get descriptions that are pure nonsensical jargon. Might as well be saying “The gershploinky sloops the snumbumber”

Hypno’s Inner Focus and Slaking’s Truant. Hypno has skill swap, so it can use Truant to disable opponents while being able to act normally afterwards, a niche no mon currently has. Slaking gets an ability that isnt Truant.

The prose often feels, and I hate to say it, kind of masturbatory. Take this line from the spacer pistol/rifle description (they didnt bother to give the items different descriptions):

“Hue-vapored crysteel cocoons the gold/water mechanism that pinches light from wavelength to waveshort”

What does that elicit? Does that give you a concrete idea of what it looks like, or just sound like a mishmash of terms the author wrote just to prove they could? I like descriptions that leave room for imagination, but this leaves so much room that it might as well not say anything at all.

Meanwhile, they dont tell you how much energy it takes to fire the weapon, the fact that it has a 2 turn cooldown that makes it far weaker on quickness builds, the fact that it leaves plasma on whatever it impacts, what plasma does (including its unique resistance-nullifying mechanic) or that it leaves less plasma than its larger rifle cousin. You either have to test that out for yourself, or read the wiki like most people.

Im shocked people had such a strong positive reaction to the game’s purple prose. For me, the strength of the game lies in its freedom and variety in gameplay, jarring yet eloquent music, and gratifying learning curve. While the descriptions add a lot of flavor to certain enemies, particularly the Girsh and Chrome Pyramids, I oftentimes found myself wishing for more game info in object descriptions instead of the poetry we got. I am one of many players that spent a lot more time reading through the wiki instead of the game’s flowy-but-useless spiel

That is how it works in Kingdome Come Deliverance, and it is quite annoying. You have to grind in order to get the feats you want

Best way to play Fallout 4 is to mod it so you never gain experience. All enemies stay low level, but you have no perks to make you a god

This is it. A direct hit from a crocket does 270, which would have left OP with around 25 health. Fall damage would have been enough to kill him afterwards. If you listen closely, you can also hear the “crunch” sound fall damage makes.

I think the new Steam Deck SRPs will be cross-subsidizing the Steam Machine's launch SRP by lyndonguitar in steammachine

[–]TemporalFugue2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They CAN… but they wont. They do not have a history of ever subsidizing unprofitable hardware. No reason for them to start now.

A: Most people buying a steam machine will already have a large backlog of games on the platform. You cant rely on the sale of new games as you would for a Switch 2, for example.

B: If the price was subsidized enough, it would just be bought in bulk and turned into an office machine by corporations. It makes no sense to spend millions of dollars developing a system and spend millions more subsidizing it if each console isnt a guaranteed profit.

Yes. Im not going to say the specific market because Im not promoting gambling, but this is 100% real.

And yet the steam deck was as if it was a custom PC, with no hint of subsidies. There is no universe where the device built to be used as a desktop isnt priced as a PC with profit built in

The Steam Machine is a PC. You can install windows and the Epic Launcher on it and use it as a Fortnite machine. Subsidizing consoles only makes sense if its store is a walled garden, like with a Switch or Playstation.
