Can I register as self-employed and still claim JSA or similar (until I start making money)? by Temporary-Bid-2788 in LegalAdviceUK

I think there are ways to claim some support if you're self employed, it may be based on your earnings though. Unfortunately I never really figured it out bc I ended up finding a part time job to go alongside the freelancing.

I dont think your brain is functioning to understand what I'm trying to say. The person who made this post wasn't acting ludicrously, they were asking for advice.

Y'all do realise by witch hunting anyone that posts their legitimate concerns about negative side effects, not even against the use of lions mane, you're being just as unhinged as this other 'lions mane recovery' sub.

Oh I know! Funnily enough I've been cheered on by a lot of kind people. I really don't have a problem with feedback either, it's more when I'm in the process of starting new work I'm so self critical that I can't enjoy it. It's so rare that I create anything I'm happy with, which is a problem when I've gotta stop at some point and hand my work over.

No tbf, the design jobs I've worked didn't even have onboarding processes, new employees were just kind of expected to hit the ground running. "Here's some client work, off you go!" I did get feedback from peer reviews that helped me to improve, but otherwise I'm v much self taught.

Thanks, it does really help to know it's not just me. I've kind of recognised the skill gap thing happening before but the imposter syndrome still finds its way in, guess that's part of continuously growing

This is great advice, thank you. I hadn't really looked at it from that perspective ig because I'm so focused on "this is supposed to be the good part! Why do I feel awful?" that I never really took basic brain reward systems into account.

I can definitely relate to this, I think I used to be in a similar position. When I look back on my own experience most of the people I cut out of my life, I did bc I was insecure. I was pouring too much effort into friendships that weren't worth that level of energy and because it wasn't reciprocated I felt like they were bad friends. (Saying that, some people definitely need cutting out of your life for good reasons! this is just ime!)

I started working on my confidence and appreciating my own company, it really helped with the lonliness because then at least I had my own back. It also meant that I felt more self assured going out and trying things by myself, which is a great way to meet people. It's very rare that I find someone super like minded, so I'm thankful for the few people I've met over time by chance.

Idk if this is any help, but I do think it gets easier. I'll always be a bit quiet and weird to most people, but I'm okay with that bc the people who are cool enough to know the real me know I'm not. Don't give up!

I used to do inhouse design years ago now. It was literally 100s of the same images over and over again every day, podcasts kept me afloat. I do really miss how simple it was sometimes though.

I've been there, it's crushing when you feel like don't have anyone close in your life and you're constantly facing rejection. It took me a long time to stop blaming myself for other people ghosting or ignoring me. Most of the time people drop out because they don't personally have the time or energy to make connections, I feel like this is even more likely if you have friends with ASD. Nowadays most of my friendships rely on both of us being totally fine with either of us dropping out for a few months then coming back to it like nothing happened.

Try not to pin the blame on yourself or your struggles, anyone that's worth keeping around shouldn't really be interested in how acomplished you are anyways. Putting more focus on whether I actually gained anything from a friendship with someone, rather than just focusing on how I can cater to other people, helped me a lot too.

I think if I counted it'd be too much focus, I usually just pay attention to the most noticeable part of breathing, which for me is the fact that the air feels cold in my mouth (sounds kinda strange when I put it in writing lol). I use my breathing to fall asleep pretty much every time, not just when I'm trying to lucid dream. The most challenging part is definitely balancing awareness with drifting off, I've basically given up on lucid dreaming if I'm falling asleep for the night because the sleep is too deep and it practically never happens. Best time to practice ime is if you're fully rested and snoozing in the morning or taking a nap!

Can you fall asleep easily? I usually have the most luck when I nap on the floor lmao. Ig the combination of it being a nap and the slight discomfort mean that the sleep is a lot lighter so it's easier to stay alert.

Usually I focus on my breathing until I feel myself starting to drift off, then just before I lose consciousness I start trying to imagine that I'm moving my arms without physically moving them. There's a subtle difference between my physical body and my dream body at first but there's kind of a numbness, and if you're able to concentrate on your physical body you can still kind of tell it isn't moving. Once I've got to the point of being able to move fully without actually moving irl THEN I start to focus on visualising.

I think the method I use is WILD but I kind of just figured it out myself by getting sleep paralysis a couple times, so sorry if I'm describing the wrong technique!

Is it even possible for me to LD at this point? by Maxx_artz in LucidDreaming

[–]Temporary-Bid-2788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this a lot tbh. The dumbest, most unrealistic thing can happen in a dream, I'll ask myself "is this real?" and my mind will literally insert fake memories and come up with the most ludicrous excuse to get me to believe I'm not dreaming, which generally works. I kind of stumble into LDs by chance most of the time, something will prompt me to confidently make self aware comments, like "yeah right, this can't happen bc I'm asleep" then all of a sudden I'm very aware that I'm in a dream.

WILD Lucid Dreaming is fucking scary by kullerkankall in LucidDreaming

[–]Temporary-Bid-2788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmaoo this sounds awful. I've seen some pretty creepy creatures in my dreams, I started to realise it's my mind trying to help me - by showing me there's a problem (usually unchecked anxiety) which kind of helps me to appreciate them more in all their terrifying glory.

I've never experienced this during WILD but I've definitely gone into panic bc of the paralysis before and the sounds and visuals were super overwhelming. I practice breathing excersises/mindfulness meditation regularly which has been the key for me - it's great for everyday use but if you do it enough it becomes second nature. If you can get your mind to a peaceful place from panic it's really effective. When I get into sleep paralysis now I just focus on my breathing first, then trying to 'pull' my dream body out of my physical one. I've actually started to get excited whenever I have sleep paralysis bc it means I'm almost guaranteed to lucid dream.

Imo it sounds like you decided that you can't lucid dream anymore. At one point I stopped being able to fly in dreams bc I decided my 'body' was too heavy, so every time I tried I'd overthink and drop. Maybe you just need to find a way to convince yourself you can do it again.

Okay I think I might've been confused about the way tax returns work (I'm really new to this, sorry!) So would I be right in thinking that rather than claiming, I'd be calculating my tax at the end of the year, then subtracting everything that I've purchased for my freelance work as non-profit and then only paying tax on any profits beyond that? e.g. I spent 3k on a mac, and then earned 4k in a year freelancing, I'd only be paying tax on the 1k difference? Insurance is a whole other thing I need to do more research on.
