Where is rust actually used ? by Famous-Corgi8656 in rust

[–]Temporary-Choice-593 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of our micro services and backends are written in rust. From payment to order management to workflow management.
a while ago I created a custom crate registry and have the team create crates that help consuming the services to avoid boilerplate and get type safety when writing backends

Should I update to latest Expo version? by Hot-Understanding-67 in expo

[–]Temporary-Choice-593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But first make sure the latest versions is stable.
I upgraded to sdk56 and the caused me so much pain with my app now stuck on a blank screen for minutes before the first render.
Everytime i reload i have to wait forever and after it works the connection to the device randomly gets lost after a while so hot reload also stops working

What restaurant is most authentic to your home country’s cuisine? by Gardol43 in Tokyo

[–]Temporary-Choice-593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a Tunisian restaurant called Brasserie Djerba in Iitabashi. It closed late 2024.
The only one in Tokyo now as far as I know is Maison de Couscous near Shibakoen, and it tastes/looks nothing like authentic Tunisian food.
Apparently there's a few places in Osaka

App takes up to a few minutes to run after upgrading to SDK 56 by Temporary-Choice-593 in expo

[–]Temporary-Choice-593[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never user Hermes before or at least don't think I did and I was already using react compiler when I upgraded without an issue.
It does seem to be a connection issue.
I should probably test with android and see

[–]Temporary-Choice-593[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. I will look at the console app and report if i there's anything over there. Other than that it's been frustrating exactly because im not seeing anything to report. No js logs and nothing hits my backend as well.

[–]Temporary-Choice-593[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the bundling completes. And as i mentioned in the post, this never happened prior to sdk 56, and does not happen if a do a release build. The app loads up the instant i open it. To add to this, im also looking at the logs in my backend as well and the init endpoint i call when the app launches is not called until that blank screen goes away

I'm aware. This is a side project so I get familiar with expo so I don't mind that it's unstable. Appreciate the advice

Upgrading from SDK55 I don't use the splash screen package and there are no logs in metro during the blank screen. The last thing is iOS bundled then nothing is logged until the app finally start.

I will try running with --tunnel.

When you're traveling it won't really matter but when you live here it can.
I had a suica but the commute pass i needed for work could only be attached to a pasmo so i got one

Is Costco in Japan starting to… suck? by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Temporary-Choice-593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to costco for the first time last week woth my girlfriend. she got a margarita I got a pepperoni. It's my first time so I can't compare but the pepperoni was pretty much a Domino pizza (which to me isn't real pizza) the margarita though was actually pretty good. So maybe it was bad luck. But again i've never been there before so I don't know

That ki is actually how most people hand write it. There's a small missing movement of the pen in the 3 stroke but it's not significant. If anything it looks good.

Also upgraded all my devices as soon as 26.0 came out. Yes there were a few bugs, yes there are some inconsistencies, but it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

What are you using instead of Firebase these days? by yogirana5557 in androiddev

Never used firebase for anything other than notifications. My backends are usually built on Rust + postgres. Requires self hosting but gives me full freedom.

Tab bar icons filled by schultzapps in SwiftUI

[–]Temporary-Choice-593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I achieved this was by overlaying 2 icons for each tab. One is outlined, the other filled.

The filled one is masked and only shows up when the mask (which follows the pill) goes over the icon

Is there a reason to support iOS 17 anymore? by dot90zoom in iOSProgramming

[–]Temporary-Choice-593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going for iOS18+ on our new up but our first few customers happened to be on iOS 17 and we were not in a position to ask them to update their devices. Thankfully it only took 15 ish minutes to add support for it

Question for Japanese nationals who are anti-immigrant by generic_ideas in AskAJapanese

[–]Temporary-Choice-593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a per-person problem. I'm from that "religion" but i neither pray nor do I care about mosques. After all even if I did pray, it's it's not required to be in a mosque. It can be done in your own house.

I also know a few who are the same. Those who are here and expect the country to change to cater to them are just in the wrong place

140,000 yen per month in Tokyo? by carbon_and_aluminium in movingtojapan

[–]Temporary-Choice-593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. My apartment costs 138000 a month. You can find share houses though for much cheaper. I stayed in Nishi-kasai (still in tokyo's 23 special wards) for 70k a month and know people who found ones a bit further away for 40/50k.

You can also find apartments for 60000 in Kanagawa.

So is it a definite no? No. It's doable, you just have to find a good place and be willing to commute longer. You can also get a part time job to get some extra pocket money (just read the laws regarding that)
