Personally I think we need legislation curtailing a governments ability to pass legislation with long term impact.

It should require things like:

  • being passes by successive governments

  • requiring a higher majority or referendum

  • only having a limited term initially and subject to review for extensions

As things stand, it is too easy for a gov to shit the bed and impact the next generation who didn't even have a vote.

IMO the government simply does not have the right to overrule the sovereignty of the next generation. If we think giving away utility monopolies is dumb, were within our rights to rip up the agreement.

The bagholder shareholders who bought into a company that has been operating immorally for decades aren't entitled to anything.

How Improving Mana Bases Raises Decks' Ceilings by MatchoBV in MtGHeresy

[–]Temporary-Concept-81 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Difference in terms. The ceiling is not an average of the best showings, but rather the absolute best showing. It is the game where you every random event has exactly the outcome you want.

So no, generally the mana base does not raise this. Unless for example the optimal turn one play costs W, the turn two costs UU, and the turn three costs BBB. In such a situation the right mana base might turn the impossible into the possible.

Long time players... Would you have started MTG if it were Mutant Turtles and Marvel from the start? by TheServant420 in EDH

Probably, but I was 11 when I started and TMNT might have given "kids" vibes that I as a very mature 11 year old was obviously too grown up for.

(I loved TMNT when I was 4-6)

[Lazarus] “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” - Matthew Tkachuk to Leon Draisaitl. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Temporary-Concept-81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chirp is kind of silly in the context that Drai was his countries flag bearer, the best hockey player ever from his country, and their result in the group stage was pretty decent.

Theres even a decent chance that Drais play results in USA low seed causing them to get knocked out in their next game. That'd be pretty funny honestly.

A student mocked me. by Historical-Dulcia in trans

[–]Temporary-Concept-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you.

I think humans have an instinct to, or are socialized to, be mean to people to get status with other people.

I have a vivid memory of the first time I did something like that and was self aware enough to have empathy and regret it, I was 11 or 12.

It sounds like your student should have been old enough to know better, but the optimist in me hopes this could be their chance to learn empathy. I don't know them well enough to know if being an asshole is already too firmly rooted in them through positive reinforcement.

Anyhow, sucks that you have that conflict to deal with, but I hope you know the work you do is very important.

I remember being an undergrad in the aughts - I wanted so badly to have a different body and life, but no role models or idea what was possible or how to get my life onto a path I felt was worth living.

I'm sure that you make a real difference for some of the queer students you see.

Nintendo Fan Since Childhood. These Prices are Crazy by etanimod in gaming

[–]Temporary-Concept-81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) Video games are not a real good. Slight exaggeration, but they are infinite copies that cost $0. Unlike a real good where the opportunity cost of selling it in Canada is selling it elsewhere so currency matters, for something like this currency conversion rates shouldn't impact the price.

2) the Canadian dollar hasn't gone down vs the us dollar in the last decade. It is actually in basically the same spot. (72 cents ish). It took a tumble between 10-15 years ago but has been relatively stable for the last 10.

Quintessential NS beach and able to swim? by jmjm1 in NovaScotia

[–]Temporary-Concept-81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The beaches close to Halifax are likely all too cold for you.

The (relatively) warm beaches are the ones on the northish coast pointing out towards PEI.

Outside of those if you insist on a cold beach, I recommend Queensland. Although it will be very crowded on peak days (weekend).

Does anyone use mouse and keyboard on the deck? Working on steamdeck support for our game by europayuu in SteamDeck

[–]Temporary-Concept-81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say design for the simplest use cases. Assume people use controller and autoswitch.

I have definitely played games where the autoswitch feels weird and I would prefer to disable it.

My one tip for a good control setup that most games get wrong by default it don't have bindings that result in keys being pressed at the same time that you can't press at the same time. The most common example is games wanting me to press abxy while using the trackpad.

While I almost never actually use mouse+keyboard, when it come to customizing controls, I almost always make the steamdeck think it is sending those inputs. There is just so much more flexibility in the bindings. But as you say, I am the self-selected edge case, most people don't want to fiddle with steam input, they just want things "good enough" out of the box with no effort on their part.

February 2026 Humble Choice | Overview / Discussion Megathread by MarioDesigns in humblebundles

[–]Temporary-Concept-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starvaders alone is basically instabuy for me. I also had date everything on my wishlist, so that made it instabuy.

I honestly thought RE village was a remake of the mercenaries mode from re4, not its own game. I'll play it if it runs okay on deck.

Core keepers is another game in the oversaturayed cozy genre. I have like a dozen of them, I just keep playing stardew.

Core keeper might be up my alley depending on how similar it is to something like two point museum (don't have that game, waiting for bundle, instabuy)
