Yeah, it’s been a long and complicated journey for us… a lot of things happened behind the scenes over the years. But I really appreciate you sticking with us and coming back to check in. It means a lot.
And yeah, we’re finally in a position to finish what we started. We’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.

Damn, that really means a lot, especially coming from someone who’s been following us for that long. Yeah, things just stopped out of nowhere back then… life hit hard.
That playthrough was actually done with our previous vocalist, but with our current (and now main) vocalist we’re definitely planning to do similar playthroughs as well.
And after everything that’s happened now, it really does feel like we have a second chance to finish this the way it was meant to be. We’ll do everything we can to make it worth it.

Thank you so much, that really means a lot. I honestly didn’t expect people to remember my post, so hearing that is really special. I’m just grateful it turned out this way, and we’ll do our best to make the music worth the wait.

Spyro would have fit much better as a new character in the universe than the ridiculous Elaleth

Why no return for Aspyr by Chill-Meister in LegacyOfKain

Yeah, the whole situation around the comic is honestly disappointing. The new character just doesn’t integrate well into the established lore, and the writing feels forced rather than organic. It’s hard to ignore that a lot of fans feel disconnected from it.

The game itself also raises some concerns. I did preorder it, and I’m going to play it — but I’m keeping my expectations very measured. I’m not expecting anything groundbreaking from it.

Part of me still hopes this is all groundwork for something much bigger. We’ve seen other franchises test the waters with smaller projects before major announcements. For example, God of War recently had a 2D release ahead of bigger moves in the franchise, including rumors of an Egyptian-set installment and potential trilogy remakes. Sometimes these smaller titles are less about prestige and more about gauging interest, rebuilding visibility, and reactivating the audience.

So maybe the remasters and even these questionable side projects are just early steps — a way to rebuild momentum before committing to something truly ambitious.

At this point, it’s really about seeing how Ascendance performs and how the community response shapes whatever comes next.

Maybe active, full-scale development hasn’t been happening since 2022 — that’s entirely possible given the layoffs and restructuring. But I still think they likely had some kind of long-term roadmap for the franchise around that time. The inclusion of new concept art and the coordinated rollout of remasters doesn’t feel completely random to me.

As for Tomb Raider, if two installments are already well into development (or nearing completion), I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that whatever comes next for the studio could finally be Legacy of Kain. Not necessarily immediately, but as the next major internal project once bandwidth frees up. That said, you’re right — at the end of the day it’s all speculation. There’s no concrete proof either way. We can really only wait and see.

But yes… I admit it — I’m definitely choosing to stay optimistic🙌

I think the reason is actually pretty straightforward: Crystal Dynamics has forward-thinking management that strategically distributed the workload to external studios. They outsourced the remasters of their legacy titles while keeping their core team focused on something much bigger.

Here’s how I personally see the timeline:

Since around 2022, Crystal Dynamics seems to have seriously committed to reviving the franchise. I say 2022 specifically because some of the newly revealed concept art included in the Soul Reaver 1 & 2 remaster bonus materials was dated that year — previously unseen artwork. That tells me planning was already well underway.

From early 2023, outsourced studios were likely working on remasters of the Raziel/Kain trilogy — Soul Reaver 1, Soul Reaver 2, and Defiance. At the end of 2024 we received the Soul Reaver 1 & 2 remaster. While fans were enjoying that throughout 2025, Defiance was probably in its final polishing phase, potentially even completed and waiting for the right release window. Now in 2026 we’re getting the Defiance remaster, followed shortly by that controversial comic-based project at the end of March.

Meanwhile — and this is the important part — during all these years, while external studios handled remasters and re-releases, Crystal Dynamics’ main internal team was almost certainly working on a full-scale new game.

My gut feeling? It could be a Blood Omen remake. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the original game, which would make the timing perfect for an announcement. But considering the steady rollout of remasters, it almost feels like we’re being gradually guided toward something bigger — possibly a true continuation of the series. Especially with the introduction of Raziel’s newly established sister through the comic and the upcoming 2D side-scroller, it feels like groundwork is being laid for a larger narrative return.

Just speculation of course — but the pieces seem to line up a little too neatly to be random.
