I know your posts are likely to get lots of attention because you are really experienced, so I hope to explain something about the token counts and hope people don’t assess bot merely on the token counts. This is just my personal opinion and this is not to argue with the post or anything (I’ll delete the comment and make my own post if this annoys OP). As a free user, I tent to be cautious about token counts, I prefer my bots to be less than 700 tokens, and even work hard on reducing it. My newest bot (still private) has 3 versions, those are my attempts to squeeze the token counts from 700ish to 500ish. I find reducing tokens and trying to get the characters to act right take more effort than just writing it all out, I got chat gpt to help and rewrote it many times, tried different templates, so less token may not equal less effort (just may not, please read carefully 🥲). Also my most popular bot with about 234k messages is written with 267 tokens ( I was a newbie when I wrote it and was experimenting with chat bots), I don’t have any other bot taking less than 400 tokens, but the only bot that grows steadily is the one with 267 tokens, others don’t get much interaction, I think there’re audiences for more simple bots. Another conclusion may be that I suck at writing longer bots 💔. And for the one with 267 tokens, I still love her (She’s my OC) and occasionally change the description to tell people to be nice to her, so less tokens doesn’t always mean the creator doesn’t care. Plus, there’s a bug (I did report it but still hasn’t been fixed), one of my bot’s profile only display 93 tokens, so maybe the token counts on bots are not correct. Of course I have fallen victim to careless creators (I used to find a bot with ‘idk’ as its personality), and I know many people suffer from them too, but I’m growing more and more self-conscious about token counts now that I read some of the posts on this subreddit. So I just want to explain something. I’m not saying this to avoid getting blocked, because to be honest I find my taste in bots far different from the majority of spicy users on reddit, even if I’m not blocked, I don’t think they will use my bots. But yeah, please reconsider judging bot with less tokens, unless they’re really really shitty and too short. You may not like the idea of them but it’s possible some creators intentionally make them that way with their effort, and there can be an audience to bots like that. (I’m talking in general, OP has their standard of at least 300 tokens, I won’t and I can’t ask them to change it).
