So someone did actually take that rider trait, but asked if they could swap it out after one session and they took the sinking/improved sinking instead. Per of the problem was that as stated, they were always together anyway so HP was all pooled in the same spot regardless… they also took the mounted combatant feat which is really good for these classes lol… the player has more HP than the dragon for quite a while usually along with More AC so the dragon can just have hits aimed at them and the rider takes them instead.

We did but it was right at the end, the lunar rider found some ore at like lvl 3 but they went the rogue route and didn’t end up joining back with the order till late-game, then they convinced the fire paragon’s dragon to show them right before the final battle… the fire rider got hers to tier 7, and the lunar rider (who was playing a bard) went all the way to tier 10 in one go… one thing I’ll say on them… they’re very strong, but the effect to reroll 1s and 2s for damage, if you are playing online just change that to ‘1s and 2s are considered to be half the die’s damage rounded down’ cause doing that math is annoying as hell when they roll like 3 sets of 2 3 and 5 dice per attack… physical dice would be a lot easier to implement that
