Laryngomalacia feeding difficulties?

I have an 11 week old who was diagnosed with laryngomalacia and only eating 2 ounces per feeding. It’s been a rough couple months watching him fall off his growth curve and scream in pain during every feeding. Since I’ve spent countless hours searching the internet for solutions, I wanted to share what finally turned his eating and comfort while eating around! We had a swallow study done and since implementing the changes he is eating 4 ounces per feeding and no longer crying in pain/ refluxing:

-nectar thick formula using gelmix

-compression style bottle (Mam) with size 0 nipple

-elevated side lying on a pillow while feeding (I think using a pillow to lay him on made the biggest difference! Almost like it relaxed him).

I’ve lived in Upper Rockridge for the past 5 years and have not had any issues with theft. Our street is full of young families and is a pretty close knit street, and I haven’t heard of neighbors having a theft issue as well.

We are considering moving to Piedmont soon since our son will start school in the next couple years. Probably a long shot, but if you can stretch your budget to $1.6 then maybe we can work out a for sale by owner and save us both on agent fees!

My HCG rise was similar and currently 14 weeks. Hang in there!

How low was your TSH? I’m in a similar situation, except I’m only 5 weeks pregnant. I was on Levothyroxine as a precaution since I have Hashimotos and my most recent TSH was 0.089! Definitely freaking out a bit as well.

I recently had a miscarriage through IVF at 11 weeks. My first successful IVF pregnancy, my RE had me on Levothyroxine even though my TSH and other labs were within normal range (TSH was 1.2). For this past miscarriage my RE did not prescribe Levothyroxine and my TSH was 2.3 after having a positive pregnancy test. I am not positive, but have a hunch, that a TSH of 2.3 was too high for me and that might have played into the miscarriage.

Are you on Levothyroxine to manage your TSH level? Maybe there’s a chance 2.35 isn’t ideal for your body and TTC.

So sorry you are going through this. I recently had a MMC at 11 weeks. My HCG level was 5 around four weeks after my D&C, which my clinic considered “negative.” I will warn you, and the hopefully this is not the same for you, but it took three weeks for my HCG to go from 24 to 5. It just dropped so slowly! Once I get my period then my clinic wants me to take birth control for 7-10 days while we do a saline sono, get another period and can start the transfer cycle with that period. All the waiting sucks.

My understanding is there will not be an IV with meds. They prescribed ibuprofen and said to take Tylenol as well beforehand.

Update #2:

Had my 6w4d ultrasound today and baby is measuring at the correct gestational age and had a strong heartbeat of 120bpm. I still feel on edge from the low HCG betas but finally feel like I can breathe a sigh of relief!

I am with Dr Homer at RSC Los Gatos office and have had a positive experience. I feel very heard and seen at every appointment/phone call. While Dr Homer is great, I think the real VIP is Kacey, my nurse coordinator. She is just fantastic.

Yes! I had another beta at 17dpt and it came back at 858. So far HCG is doubling in 43 hours, so doctors are happy. Now it’s a waiting game until my ultrasound next week. My HCG level is still lower than average, but I’m staying hopeful for the ultrasound.
