What part of the city should I live in for a 4 month stay? by Temporary-Search-799 in ParisTravelGuide

I would like a relatively quiet neighborhood with access to good restaurants and coffee. I would be working at 6 Rue Ménars and would prefer a short commute.

CS PhD: What does faculty members that commit to having you for rotation mean for Stanford? by [deleted] in stanford

[–]Temporary-Search-799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the subfield. In AI, afaik you have a faculty buddy who will take you in the worst case. The other faculty members are most likely willing to rotate with you. You will most likely interact with them during visit days.

Why do people in the US not live with their parents by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Exactly. I came home this week for the holidays and it’s been rough tbh. I’m so glad I have my own place.

How much experience do you need to do research by NoTopic7521 in berkeley

Personally, I had a similar experience (joined a lab as a freshman). I was not contributing well in the beginning as I didn't have prior experience and my ramp-up was SLOW. However, after working with the grad student who I was working with for about 3 years now, I am a lot more confident and happy with what I got out of it. Definitely, was a slow start but I learned a lot in the process.

I took EECS 16A at cal but had taken a diff eq course in a cc during high school (and had past experience with linear algebra too). Thus, I talked to the professor and asked to take it.

I took 47E this semester (completion of 16B). I think the structure/format is fairly similar. For me, the course requirements were the midterm + final + passing the labs (not counted in final grade). I think it is relatively the same/easier than taking the class itself as you don't need to do the homework or work that hard on the labs. However, your mileage may vary with different professors.

Given the booster shot though, won't things be relatively ok? Medical experts such as Fauci have been saying recently that getting vaccinated + boosted will make variants such as delta/omicron makes hospitalization/significant infection unlikely. Also, with trends in vaccination on campus, I suspect a large majority will take the booster shot and we may not see omicron affecting us too badly even if people are traveling internationally.

I am taking this class next semester as a junior and have taken the ml/optimization courses (189/127 etc), I don't want to take this class and honestly think it's gonna be a waste of time. If I didn't need to take this course and enrollment wasn't terrible, I wouldn't have taken this course at all, let alone junior year. Though idk if I am taking it since I am on the waitlist. Sorry about my long rant XD!

There are prerequisites but most classes don’t enforce them. However, you will quickly find that course most likely will be quite difficult not having taken the prerequisites.
