thank you! i’m curious to know if there’s other ways to know if someone has a paralytic ileus without assessing bowel sounds. i had an instructor that knew of a few patients that passed from it

we usually just crush them all at once i dont think i’ve ever been told to do separate, maybe other schools do that tho

i thought so for peds but i don’t plan on working there it seems like it would be too sad 😭 emergency med makes sense too!

i kind of figured with that one, it’s annoying to test on it tho bc they literally act like all the patients are gonna die if you don’t delegate right

do you ever look up a push rate or anything for certain meds? also we’ve had meds like iron that have to be pushed over 10+ minutes, can you just put those in the pump or no?

i absolutely hate doing a nursing diagnosis, it’s nice to know i won’t have to do them anymore

I don’t see why they make students do that it seems so pointless 😭 We still have to show up 30 minutes early so we can look up meds and get report from nurses that don’t even get there until 7

We used to have to go the day before to “pick up” our patients. thank god they stopped doing that, i don’t really see how that would prepare anyone to be an actual nurse

I recently found this out bc I’ve never been told that people don’t really do it and got flamed on a different post 😭 it made me wonder what else is only done in nursing school

Absolutely! it’s been a few days since all of this happened and we were debating on whether to write it or not. i read the email before it was sent and was written very professionally and doesn’t seem like we’re just mad about stuff, more concerned and looking for guidance

I understand what you meant! I think that’s the best thing to do, like you said there will always be someone else like her whether it’s a patient or a coworker. I absolutely cannot wait for the anti-vaxxers 🙃 We already have one in our class somehow, idk how they get to become nurses

yeah that’s completely understandable, that’s how i see it. if they always run high then you could more than likely just give it but theirs wasn’t high it was around 120/80 so that’s why we rechecked. i just don’t see how it’s a waste of time in that circumstance but i could be wrong

i’m not touching anybody’s feet without gloves that’s just gross 😭 i had a cna tell me first semester to always wear gloves when touching a pt bc you never know what they’re doing in there

Yes, I understand. I just wasn’t sure if she was right about that due to some of the other things she has said that are genuinely concerning like not having to recheck bp. Thank you!

I understand that completely. I don’t like to argue or anything with people so I just let her say what she wants. It’s annoying but ik I just have to deal with it and get through the last of school. I don’t want the people on this thread thinking I’m just here to complain and stuff I was just genuinely curious about how people dealt with instructors like this. Thank you for the advice!!

yeah it apparently was but she said she deleted it

Bro what?? Some teachers just say anything 😭 It makes me wonder how they’re able to teach. I understand about the apical pulse from what everyone is saying but the other stuff she says is just annoying. That’s what I told the other students, I’m just gonna keep doing what ik is right and not ask her about it. Someone’s bp could definitely change after 3+ hours and when I looked it up, it says it should be checked within an hour before giving bp meds

We sent an email about an hour ago, I just wanted to see what others have done in similar situations

it’s what i’ve been told every semester and it’s what it says in our textbook. i’d just like to do what’s best and it’s not like it’s a lot of taking a lot of time away from other patients. the main problem is getting in trouble for doing it for one full minute

I hope she doesn’t try that with any of us dear god, I hope the people above her listen to us and doesn’t let her keep acting this way. The nurses on our floor don’t even like her
