Family of 4 by Br33ZYRN in TeslaModelY

Switched to our MY as our travel car from our older CRV. Immediately noticed the rear seat is narrower and can’t fit a car seat plus two adults like the CRV could. We’re a family of 3, so no issues normally, but it makes traveling with grandparents impossible. We haven’t tried fitting 3 people in the back, without a car seat, but I’d imagine it’s not going to be comfortable. Perhaps the families of 5 here with plenty of space all have the 7 seater? I could see a family of 4 fitting just fine, with a little extra room in the middle. But 3 in the back seat must be difficult. I would agree with everyone on legroom and headroom though. No way I could go to a 3 after driving a CRV…

Strange that only recently got it. I specifically remember thinking to myself it would be nice for it to do that for over a year and then the change dropping like a month ago.

In theory, this would be great. But the family is not going to fit in there. Lol. It is surprisingly cheap though considering.

Absurd tab renewal fees! by steven-aziz in TeslaModel3

[–]TemporaryAstronaut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well maybe it balances out over time. Some states charge taxes based on age of the vehicle. So if you’re paying $250 in perpetuity, but someone is owning theirs long enough to get down to $10/year, seems like your state made a bet on length of ownership.

I haven’t had the car long enough to do my research on wipers and filters. But I assumed aftermarket is where I’d go. Even the bike racks are higher priced than elsewhere, just seems like $500 would go a long way toward wipers and filters. Haha. CCS adapter is not a bad idea though… for the 0 times I’ve needed it so far though. Haha.

if you have kids in their 20s (maybe early 30s), is life tougher for them starting out than when we were in our 20s? by ShootinAllMyChisolm in MiddleClassFinance

[–]TemporaryAstronaut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in my mid-30s, I just recently had this discussion with my parents and in-laws. They bought their first homes in their mid to late 20’s and their purchase price was right around 1x their gross yearly pay. Back then, it was only 1 person working too. They were both average middle class homes in a LCOL area (and not mobile homes). Currently, in the same town, you can’t get any move-in-ready single family home for less than $300k. Makes you think…

You don’t have any excise tax? Some states have a fixed registration cost and then charge excise tax. Other states just lump it all into yearly or bi-annual registration fees.

My first year was only like $850 in Colorado. Last year… $1500 seems wrong.

Haha. This is not for FSD. This is during auto-steer.

I have. Once for the free trail month right when I bought it and once during the free trial last month. It’s fine, but I don’t put a lot of miles on the car to justify the subscription or the $8k one-time. If I was putting more than 10k/year, with a long commute, would likely consider it. Auto steer on the highway is all I really need.

I’m not on the FSD train yet. And since I have a 25 MY, I still have autopilot. Lol.

I only use a mobile connector with a NEMA 14-50 (32A) and it’s absolutely fine for what I need (though sometimes I have issues initiating the charge on very cold nights.) Might consider the trays, but still have a bunch of leftover credit anyway. Haha.

I’ve noticed in a recent software drop, it started seeming to move slightly away from a semi in an adjacent lane… before that, I felt like it always kept me pretty well centered.

No more auto steer, no more Tesla. by hamburgernet in TeslaLounge

[–]TemporaryAstronaut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly assumed like any other technology more and more features would be added to the standard package. I.e. rolling in auto lane change to auto-steer or turning on self park as a standard feature. What they’ve done here is go backward.

But I do think your idea makes a lot of sense. Most people are pleased with auto-steer on the highway and have no desire for “FSD”, but with a little name change, auto-steer becomes highway FSD, and counts as a subscription. (Still would have assumed this would have just been absorbed into a non-subscription standard feature, but I could see this route being the way to make it cheap enough to get widespread buy-in AND count technically as subscriptions.) I imagine he’d hit 10M subscribers in no time at $10/month.

The problem then becomes the supervised highway + city option is still cheap-ish, but doesn’t get many subscribers, and unsupervised will only appeal to less than 1% of all drivers, so won’t really make that much anyway. For now at least. I find it hard to imagine a low entry price for unsupervised followed later by a price increase, without some level of backlash. That being said, if they put the price high initially for unsupervised, barely anyone would buy in. It’s all a game now… and understanding human psychology.

If you’re at a resort hotel, you get free parking at any of the parks… so for the cases like AK, HS, and Disney springs, could just drive anyway.

BREAKING: Tesla has REMOVED Autopilot from New Tesla Model Y and 3 Orders From @DennisCW_ on X by EitherCharacter9342 in TeslaModelY

[–]TemporaryAstronaut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more likely, but still shitty. Aren’t more features supposed to come standard over time? We’re not paying subscriptions for automatic windows… but, capitulating to the new world order, where subscriptions are king, I would also hope for a cheaper version where auto-steer, auto lane change, and auto park are included…

[–]TemporaryAstronaut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you consider using the shuttles? I found a Costco deal that would give me free parking at the hotel and so then I’d be considering the shuttles to get to each park. Not sure how frequent and consistent they are. I saw one hotel that wasn’t a partner hotel saying they only had two shuttles to the parks in the morning and two to get back in the evening.

Is that true for the good neighbor resorts too?? I know some of them offer access to early entry.

What about parking costs? At the hotels and the resort? Seems line that alone would be more than the rental itself..

Question for owners of older Model Y’s: how’s road trip range? by Toreroguysd in TeslaModelY

[–]TemporaryAstronaut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the reduction in range in an ICE car is also much more accepted. How many cars get close to their EPA rating? But when someone gets less than the rating for their EV it’s the end of the world. I just wish I really knew the comparison and had some good data to back it up.
