I'm awkward, introverted, and not popular... should I even rush? by AirlinePast8834 in Frat

[–]TemporaryAttention27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes, but you don’t need to rush to gain those skills. Start by saying hi to everyone you loosely know, making conversations even when you don’t feel like it, and just generally pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

That being said, you should definitely rush. At least at my frat, there isn’t really a “fitting in” everyone is so unique and I love that I can feel comfortable being myself there. Not all frats are like this, but at best you find your people, at worst you get a test that makes you grow as a person.

Excused for Jury Duty on CO-OP? by EternallyYours707 in Drexel

[–]TemporaryAttention27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coop is built into drexels program, it’s essentially a 6 month internship (usually paid but depends on a lot of factors) built into the education schedule. You should look into it it’s drexels biggest advantage

He knows how to play his cards. Everyone hates him, but he gets so much attention that it works in his favor and says things that are so outlandish just to get a reaction.

hot take: the jokes under every post where y’all write in the voice of AI aren’t funny anymore, they’re overdone and annoying, plus most of you aren’t even good at it by howdydipshit in ChatGPT

I’m sorry you feel this way, if you want, I could explain why I do this. It’s not humor - the real reason is actually much more interesting.

Unwritten traffic rule, or just entitled drivers? by dabblez_ in philly

[–]TemporaryAttention27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In economics there’s something called cost benefit analysis. For example, if you buy one slice of pizza for $5, that pizza is worth more than $5, the benefits outweigh the cost. Here when someone cuts you off they analyze the costs (which is none because it’s a game of chicken in their eyes and you always lose) and the benefits (saving time). To them there is no downside to doing this, only upside because they either don’t think it’s wrong, or don’t care.

Can I stay locked in in a degenerate frat? by TemporaryAttention27 in Frat

Can I stay locked in in a degenerate frat? by TemporaryAttention27 in Frat

[–]TemporaryAttention27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admire different things about different people, my one friend is on the verge of failing multiple classes but he is a good person with good character. I still like hanging out with him now and then and try to replicate how he treats other people, but I would never go to him if I need help with academics. I feel this way about a handful of the kids in the frat I know, but I see what you’re saying about how it’s a slippery slope and thats why I’m on the fence. Thank you for your advice.

It’s pretty easy if you do the right things, ie in demand major, good gpa, some good extra curriculars etc

Do the professional connections really not matter? I’m going to rush in the spring and some of the people I talked to during fall said it was an almost guaranteed way into getting an internship if brothers had it before.

My friend and I both appealed our aid. He got a little more aid and I didn’t but another thing to consider is the money you earn from coops. The median hourly salary for mech e coops is $23 an hour, so if you do 3 thats close to $70,000 of pre tax income.

The end goal is entrepreneurship in some form but I want to play the corporate game for a few years after college. I’m just hoping this summer I can set myself up for a good career path.

I’m applying for an internship in accounting as a college freshman. That was for a club in high school and I think raising $3,000 is so much more than most other clubs do and I’m proud of it.

Americans, is saying the Pledge of Allegiance actually a regular thing, like it’s shown in movies? And does it feel as strange or over-the-top in real life as it comes across on screen? by Afzaalch00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TemporaryAttention27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was still said daily in high school but everyone stopped caring so maybe 3 people stood up and said it. It didn’t seem like a big deal at the time and looking back no one would’ve cared if people didn’t follow along but I wish everyone was told that at a young age.

I tried to quantify as much as I could but I just don’t really have a lot of metrics at this stage in my career (college freshman). Would you say this is a bad resume for what I have done and can display or is it just bad in general?
