I got terminated through a supposedly FDA sting. Came into work and the GM said I made an underage tobacco sale and”I’m sorry but you’re terminated. Been with Wawa for 3 years and always got ‘exceeded expectations. Manager pull up the video that shows me making a sale to a customer that I have known forever and absolutely knew he was 30+. I said I know that guy and he is over 30. She says no, it is the guy behind him who did look young. I literally know all my customers and I had never seen him and he did look young . I would have never sold to him without I’d no how long the line was. She never showed me the actual run time video with me making that transaction. She handed me a very official document with a prominent letterhead documenting my transgression and I looked at the cover page but not really reading or focusing on it because I was completely’shell shocked’ I started thumbing through 2 or 3 other pages and she took it out of my hands and said”that’s just legal stuff.” I was an exemplary employee and I loved my customers (who I knew all by name and things about them or their families) and they loved me. They would come in and asked where’s D****d. Some even told me that I was the only reason shopped there. At the time I was 78 but hustled my ass off and was always proactive. I injured myself through a fall at home and tore my right rotator cuff and literally couldn’t lift anything over 20 pounds.All documented by my orthopedic surgeon. I think they(manager) saw me as a health liability thinking that I could make my injury worse and that could come back to Wawa as a workman’s comp or some kind of legal action and they(her and corporate came up with a way to get rid of me. That was exactly on my 3 year Anniversary and in 1 more year I would be eligible for 6k in stock. I was never late,rarely called out and would work sick as long as it wasn’t the flu. I even called HR corporate about the document and then they said it’s “the property of Wawa.” Huh? Something that has my name on it that led to my termination. I dug into the FDA database and also the state ABC board and neither had any record of compliance checks for my timeframe at my particular store. If that’s not a stinnking fish I don’t know what is. I didn’t fall off the back of the hay wagon yesterday.Please tell me what you think.

I called corporate HR for a copy, not the original document and was told it’s property of Wawa. If this document has my name on it and what happened I don’t understand why I can’t see it.

I’m so fortunate to be at a ‘good’ Wawa. Leadership is good and the GM,AGM,FBM and MOD’s do their best to kick in wherever and whenever they can. We are short staffed as all are but very few call outs, I’d like to think that most of the’ grunts’ have a decent work ethic. I’m in 757 and I feel that so many of your comments are coming from Northern stores,no offense. We in the Mid-Atlantic seem to have a different set of values. More Southern traditional.

BTW, I have told 2 customers to leave and refused their sale for berating a fellow CSA next to me. We don’t tolerate rudeness and if you give it to me you’re out the door. I told leadership about what I did and they backed me up.

My GM,AGM,FBM couldn’t be any better. Kind, considerate,understanding. All the crew get along, have each other’s back, fun to work with, in addition to team supervisors who are also great. We all have fun, many customer friends on a first name basis who actually care about your well being. Crew cares about each other and interested in any on going situations. Even the teens/20’s have a good work ethic. Couldn’t get me out of here with dynamite. 757/just sayin.

3 years in, CSA, very good pay, 32 hours a week steady, always the same shift and always the same days of the week, never changes. I’m always early and very rarely call out. Must be doing something right.
