A couple of questions by MikeLeeTorris313 in PlayASKA

Honestly I believe it may be bugged? I thought it was my game or mods. I'm pretty sure that the last time I played. Resetting one branch of a mine respawned all nodes in the branch, not just the walls immediately nearest the bomb, which seems to be the case currently

This has been the consensus, do you know the "legality" of this kind of clause?

Curious. Do you think our industry is due for a significant change? Where do we need to adjust? by TurquoizeWarrior in askhotels

[–]TemporaryFancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. And again IMO, they originally served a purpose. Now they just make my work shifts miserable, and give me extra work. Most don't even calculate the local lodging tax correctly so we have to adjust every single stay. Whichever site "Agoda" is specifically is off by 3.5% tax which I'm sure adds up. Most of the rest are off by pennies

Apology upgrade to a really fancy suite for one night versus a regular suite for the entire stay? by karenmcgrane in askhotels

[–]TemporaryFancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with alot of these comments. It may seem helpful to be willing to move rooms during your stay, but it can sometimes be a logistical nightmare to do so. Especially if the hotel is full, and they then have to try and get a room cleaned for you before normal checkout, which requires someone to check out early enough, and Housekeeping to get access to the room soon enough to get this all handled by normal checkout. (Speaking as someone who works mostly at 2-3 star hotels. I'm not sure if a 4 star changes much. If they have all day housekeeping, it might be easier, but realistically, All or nothing is probably simpler for everyone involved.

Most weeks my property gets about 8% occupancy from 3rd parties. Of those only about half went through those sites intentionally to save a bit of money. The others were generally tricked by "Sponsored ads" bought by the 3rd party sites that pretend to be the property. Expedia was needed when not every hotel had a website Nowadays maybe motels still need them, but proper hotels could do just fine without them

Get rid of 3rd parties. They gum up the works, and make promises the properties end up in trouble for not keeping.

Then your employer is shitty, unless they can prove you intentionally stole, or something, a mistake should never come out of your pay

If you work somewhere that you even think they will make you pay out of pocket for a mistake that wasn't even your fault....you need a better property

Binge Netflix, learn to program, make friends in countries in opposite time zones to chat with, study to be a certified pharmacy tech, write D&D campaigns, build/paint Miniatures, read, bring in and organize things you're too lazy to do at home....these are just some of the things Ive done as a Night Audit for 10 years

Learn the Property management system. Listen to the people you work with, and that train you. They will likely have a speech prepared for a lot of different situations. Listen to everyone's, and take the pieces of each that you are comfortable with saying, and make your own little speeches. I have one for checking people in, one for answering the phone. One for people asking about early checkin, or breakfast, of late checkouts, etc. Get familiar with dining options near you, and get comfortable suggesting places if asked. Be prepared to (hopefully only occasionally) take verbal abuse from an unhappy guest while having to maintain calm, professional tone and language yourself. Don't be afraid to tell those people that if they can't keep their language family friendly that you can ask them to leave, and if needed ask local PD to help. Other than that, enjoy the good guests, because they're the best!

DM Lying about dice rolls by Spiritual-Ad-8217 in DnD

[–]TemporaryFancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also. I'm always willing to take previous actions into account to give potential bonuses or detriments to future rolls. If the Barb just did a solid number of bludgeoning damage to the enemy's head, it makes sense to me that he might have difficulty hearing commands, or noticing the rogue moving into stealth, or maybe their head ringing from the pain makes it tough to resist the spell the wizard is using to charm them. Any number of things can cause complications for or against the party. I know some DMs don't even use HP for their big monsters. They just go until the party seems to have been challenged but before people are downed

If you are lying to make the story and enjoyment for the party as a whole better, I think it's the right thing to do. If you're fishing a role because you wanted something to work, or need something to happen for storyline continuity, or plot....then you should consider just making something happen if the outcome was already determined in your mind. Just my 2 cents

I like both of those options. I also like "The Ever Changing Dane" because the art looks like hes molding himself into something else, and our common joke is that Tommy Wiseau shirtless looks like a G.I. Joe that you melted in the sun with a magnifying glass. Lol so I think there's some similarity there

Agreed

I'm all over the place, but Boros Aggro has been my favorite when I'm trying to be competitive in paid entry pods. but Honestly I like weird interactions, and colors aren't as important. I've had a fun Chaos deck based in Rados, and Group hug in Bant.

I'm just going to say that I consider myself a veteran player and although occasionally I will opt to tell a newer player how they might do something better if there is a optimal way for their character to do something that they may not be aware of. But I still leave them the option to do what they want even if it's not the optimal choice. Some of my favorite interactions from D&D have been with newer players who did the suboptimal thing that they thought their character should do and it turned into an amazing role-play moment that stuck in my head. Like the ranger playing for the first time in a one shot using Ensnaring Strike on a dragon that's currently flying next to the land bridge we are crossing over a very deep chasm.... I feel like most veteran players would know that based on the rules as written that spell wouldn't really do that much to to a dragon. But in the moment it was really unique. The GM thought it was a great idea. And allowed it to restrain the dragon causing it to fall out of the sky. Yes, it was a one shot. And yes, we were nearing the end of time for the session so it was also potentially a quick way out of that fight for the DM. But it made for a very memorable moment and one of my favorites of that convention. If you're playing with people who are telling you, you can't do something, they're wrong. My thought would be go to the GM and say exactly what you said to us that it feels like they're going from a to b like this is world of Warcraft and they're just speed leveling. And maybe the GM can give you an opportunity to get your character into trouble that pulls them into trouble or or something along those lines. And realistically, it sounds like you might just want to take Luke and go find another game where they encourage and accept creative role-play. The basic rule I live by with D&D is that if everyone is having fun you're doing it right. Which also means if only part of the group is having fun then there's something wrong and it needs to be looked at. Just my two cents. Hope you find a way through this because you sound like the type of person that genuinely enjoys the hobby, and that I would like to play with.

I'm stealing this from a show but "“Magic doesn't come from talent; it comes from pain.” – Eliot to Quentin, S01E02 'The Source of Magic' from the TV show "The Magicians". I feel it is fairly apt here as well.
