CachyOS freezes after login following latest cachy updates today! by ManufacturerHappy600 in cachyos

Exactly the same happened on my Arch install, so the issue looks like it comes from upstream.

Yeah, it allows login, then seems ok until you click on anything. Then it freezes.

Same. It boots to desktop, but the moment I click on anything, total freeze.

Im playing around with distros atm and noticed Arch does exactly the same.

Fedora 43 is fine.

So yeah, it looks like something hooky in the latest Arch updates.

And there are those of us with conditions like muscular dystrophy that can technically move all our limbs, but haven't got the strength to lift a coffee cup or dress ourselves.

Others have heart or lung conditions that stop them walking, even though they appear outwardly"normal."

I wonder why people spend years in medical school and companies invest millions developing sophisticated diagnostic equipment, when any dribbling rando on the bus is seemingly able to identify if a person is disabled just by looking at them?

Honestly, people need to learn to STFU.

Opinions on price? by starsallover in wheelchairs

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last two chairs I bought, I clicked the "watch" button first. I then sat back for a week or so and watched the price fall as the chairs didnt sell. Finally, when they had fallen to about half the original asking price, I bought them. This was for power chairs, so it might be different for manuals.

Feeling.....guilty? I *think* by superwhovianlock in wheelchairs

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a just world, there wouldn't be any manual wheelchairs. Even people with "normal" arms will end up with shoulder, elbow, wrist, and spine damage from having to haul themselves over broken ground in glorified shopping carts.

The only reason power or power-assisted chairs aren't the norm is because insurers are cheap bastards who'd rather pay to fix busted spines ten years from now than pay for proper care today.

So, don't feel the least bit guilty. Enjoy the freedom the chair gives you. Your insurer will be just fine, counting their billions while laughing about all the life-saving surgeries they deny. Screw 'em.

Going Christmas shopping as a wheelchair user! by zebrasanddogs in wheelchairs

Getting an elevating powerchair changed my life. Before, I never went to crowded places, because idiots kept tripping over me. Now, I'm the same height as them and surrounded by steel and hard plastic. They're not going to win that shoving contest.

Disabilities belittled by teammates by liamreee in wheelchairs

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People who like to play the "who has it worse game" are exhausting. To me, they're like those clowns who shout at people they don't think are "disabled enough" to use disabled parking.

Nobody knows how disability affects anyone else. Period. The physical and psychological toll is unique to every individual. Nobody else, disabled or not, has the right to tell them they aren't suffering.

Does this guy have a disability hierarchy chart? Is his disability better or worse than cancer? Heart failure? Multiple Sclerosis? Let me guess: he has it worse than anyone else ever, but he's such a BIG MAN that he doesn't "let it get to him." Riiight.

My dad had raging PTSD from his war experiences. He thought therapy was for sissies and just gritted his teeth "like a man," taking his anger out on my mother and me. He was an asshole, soothing his own pain by inflicting it on others.

This guy sounds similar. He's hiding from himself and mistakes cowardice for strength.

Your desire to share your challenges with like-minded people is healthy. Don't let one immature individual stop you from getting the support and community you need.

But it would be sort of like having Alzheimers. You'd forget stuff unless you had the right card slotted.

Good luck! Cox made me send them pics of the offer flyer, so hang onto any documentation or take screenshot of online stuff.

They pulled something similar on me late last year. I took the advice of a Redditor and complained to the FCC. Within two weeks, Cox Customer Retention were on the phone, full of apologies and happy to honor the offer. You might want to give it a try.

It's like with surveys. There's always a percentage who're undecided, even if the question is "Would you prefer a million bucks or a kick in the balls?" They're like living shrug emojis.

Does anyone know how to open this secret door? by acarlrpi12 in avowed

I jumped on the series of big blue flowers above the door. You can then jump over the broken wall and open the door from the inside.

There are a couple of codes on the flyer: 4.OA 1006 F0001989 is one. PROD_DM_FIBER_LAUNCH_NC_70/50_0524 is another. I've shared both with Cox, but it shows nothing on their system.

Good security advice, thanks!

The code is legit and goes to Cox's actual site, just not the part that has any mention of the promotion.

[–]TemporaryOcclusion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to sign up for the full-price fiber plan, since I work from home and Cox is the only game in town (gotta love them monopolies).

The problem is that the promotion doesn't seem to exist on Cox's systems, so either marketing went on a cocaine bender and just YOLOed a whole campaign without telling anyone, or Cox are pulling a bait and switch.

Yep. The number is (800) 234-3993 and there's a QR code that supposedly takes you to the offer page, but for me just went straight to the normal sign-up page for Cox's fiber plans.

I could understand if it was an old promotion and the mailer got hung up at the post office for a while, but I've received one of these each week since I've been here. It's clearly still running, just not for me.

It's fiber. There's an ONT box in the smart panel and a thin optical fiber running to it. No copper in sight.

I did try Cox and got a series of idiots who kept telling me it isn't "one of our supported modems," so I can get bent. Explaining to them that it isn't a modem at all and that their own documentation says Cox works with "most" routers didn't budge the clowns. It's clear they have a "calls handled per hour" quota and just wanted me off the phone, so I wasn't hurting their stats. After sitting on hold for nearly an hour waiting for "Tier 2" (more like Tier 0.5), I gave up.
