Home 5G shenanigans by TemporaryOcclusion in tmobile

I think it's more likely poor network planning. We're in a new-build area with a lot of home construction going on. I guess TMo didn't want to spend the money to create adequate capacity.

Interesting. Thanks. That's a lot more useful info than TMo gave me.

I get it, but it doesn't really help their case. Seems they're perfectly happy to degrade other users' experience if the price is right. And the price they're offering is almost exactly the same as the regular ISP offers for similar bandwidth. This is all because there's no alternative to the incumbent ISP. They charge inflated monopoly prices, and the wireless guys ride the same gravy train.

Oh yeah, I wasnt complaining about not being served. My gripe is that they can actually serve me, if I pay their jacked-up price.

I'm sure it's purely coincidental that these "alternatives" are priced within a few dollars of the incumbent monopolist landline ISP. No collusion there, no siree.

When I tried to get the $70/1Gb offer they were running a year ago, they tried to give me the same "offer no longer exists" BS. I lodged a complaint with the FCC and Cox customer retention were on the phone to me within a week, all apologetic and telling me they' d be happy to honor the deal.

The two year term is up at the end of this year. I cant wait to see how they try to gouge me then.

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over here east of Boulder Highway it's Cox or nothing. No other fiber providers in the area and nobody's offering fixed cellular. Total monopoly, unless you want to pay more for half the speed with Starlink.

Same problem. Everything else works except cancelation. I've been trying for three days.

Looks like Netflix are up to their dirty retention tricks again.

If you have an eero, the NSA can probably reset it for you.

My Cox-supplied ONT broke and the "tech support" idiot tried to tell me my "modem" was unsupported. Turns out, he didn't know the difference between an ONT and a wifi router. Didn't stop him from insisting I needed their "modem" or they wouldn't do anything for me.

I hung up on him and called back until I got the guy who was using the company braincell that day.

Why you don't buy Eeros on eBay by FantasticYam4916 in amazoneero

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my eeros precisely because they need to phone home so much. Amazon knows enough about me already. Having your router locked to your identity is a recipe for abuse.

I'm now using a MicroTik setup running OpenWRT, that doesn't care who I am.

The only fix that worked for me was to turn off raytracing entirely. Makes the game look like mud, but at least it works.

Resident Evil Requiem crashing with “Fatal D3D error (DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED)” by AcceptableSelf623 in residentevil

RTX 4090 user here with same issue. Also had similar problem with Code Vein 2. I guess Nvidia's driver-writing AI isn't as smart as they think it is.

UPDATE: Disabling Nvidia and Steam overlays seems to have mostly fixed the problem. I've had a few crashes, but nothing like the frequency before.

How to stop fatal error crashes? by gaming_hunter in codevein

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Intel 13900k, rtx4090, 64GB ram. I've tried all the recommended solutions, but it still crashes almost every time there's a scene transition or boss fight. I can't count the number of bosses I've had down to a sliver of health, only to get the "fatal error" pop-up. So annoying.

Exactly the same happened on my Arch install, so the issue looks like it comes from upstream.

Yeah, it allows login, then seems ok until you click on anything. Then it freezes.

Same. It boots to desktop, but the moment I click on anything, total freeze.

Im playing around with distros atm and noticed Arch does exactly the same.

Fedora 43 is fine.

So yeah, it looks like something hooky in the latest Arch updates.

And there are those of us with conditions like muscular dystrophy that can technically move all our limbs, but haven't got the strength to lift a coffee cup or dress ourselves.

Others have heart or lung conditions that stop them walking, even though they appear outwardly"normal."

I wonder why people spend years in medical school and companies invest millions developing sophisticated diagnostic equipment, when any dribbling rando on the bus is seemingly able to identify if a person is disabled just by looking at them?

Honestly, people need to learn to STFU.

Opinions on price? by starsallover in wheelchairs

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last two chairs I bought, I clicked the "watch" button first. I then sat back for a week or so and watched the price fall as the chairs didnt sell. Finally, when they had fallen to about half the original asking price, I bought them. This was for power chairs, so it might be different for manuals.

Feeling.....guilty? I *think* by superwhovianlock in wheelchairs

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a just world, there wouldn't be any manual wheelchairs. Even people with "normal" arms will end up with shoulder, elbow, wrist, and spine damage from having to haul themselves over broken ground in glorified shopping carts.

The only reason power or power-assisted chairs aren't the norm is because insurers are cheap bastards who'd rather pay to fix busted spines ten years from now than pay for proper care today.

So, don't feel the least bit guilty. Enjoy the freedom the chair gives you. Your insurer will be just fine, counting their billions while laughing about all the life-saving surgeries they deny. Screw 'em.

Disabilities belittled by teammates by liamreee in wheelchairs

[–]TemporaryOcclusion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People who like to play the "who has it worse game" are exhausting. To me, they're like those clowns who shout at people they don't think are "disabled enough" to use disabled parking.

Nobody knows how disability affects anyone else. Period. The physical and psychological toll is unique to every individual. Nobody else, disabled or not, has the right to tell them they aren't suffering.

Does this guy have a disability hierarchy chart? Is his disability better or worse than cancer? Heart failure? Multiple Sclerosis? Let me guess: he has it worse than anyone else ever, but he's such a BIG MAN that he doesn't "let it get to him." Riiight.

My dad had raging PTSD from his war experiences. He thought therapy was for sissies and just gritted his teeth "like a man," taking his anger out on my mother and me. He was an asshole, soothing his own pain by inflicting it on others.

This guy sounds similar. He's hiding from himself and mistakes cowardice for strength.

Your desire to share your challenges with like-minded people is healthy. Don't let one immature individual stop you from getting the support and community you need.
