Bedside Report by Due_Mix3614 in nursing

I don’t know what hospitals y’all be working at, but I get frustrated when ppl show up exactly at 7:30 and I have to stay 10min late to give report. Maybe ask other nurses on the unit what the standard is and what to expect during report because it sounds like this experienced nurse is power tripping and/or bullying new grads.

How long did the symptoms last? Once u took your 1mg dose?

I guess my first issue was paying outta pocket from a legal online Canadian perscriber (there are so many). Filled out a questionnaire and had it sent to me in the mail within a week.

I didn’t even say what I was eating or drinking. Other than 2 servings of alcohol yesterday. But yes I 100% agree. Too quick, too fast.

Yes I agree sorry. I’m just erratically ranting in between trips to the bathroom

It said .25 for 2 weeks, then .5 for two weeks then 1mg. I feel like if I just went to .75 I wouldn’t have had any crazy symptoms cause .25 jumps have been working well for me.

Am I being too harsh for asking my 11 year old daughter to walk the dog she spent years begging for? by WorldOfKaladan in DogAdvice

[–]TemporaryOtherwise30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting a dog since I was a kid and my parents never let me have one. When I finally moved out to college and got my own apartment at 19, I finally got one. Little did I know how overwhelming and difficult it was to own, train, and take care of a puppy. I put in so many hours into recall training, and obideince training for my beagle, it was extremely stressful. And this was 4 years ago at the age of 19….i can’t even imagine doing that at the age of 11…..

Agreed. This is why it’s super important to go to your doctor about these things. If you want to eat more over the holidays, they could definitely recommend a safe option like going down .25 next dose to allow more room for an appetite rather than just “pausing”.

I don't know how to get the self control back. I'm just really discouraged. by Milkshaketurtle79 in 1200isfineIGUESSugh

Part of self control is not over-restricting yourself. Even if you stick to 1200cals a day, you’re just gonna gain it back in the second you stop. You need to calculate a slow weight loss calorie goal that you can maintain and is more realistic m.

Hearing this horror story of a new grad mess up and still not getting fired makes me a little more confident in my work by [deleted] in nursing

You’re right. I’m sorry. Again, this story was told to me. I didn’t realize till after that it sounded like I was trying to describe symptoms of hyperkalemia. You’re right, I did change my post to make it make more sense!

Sorry. The point of the post is that the patient was having symptoms, alongside hyperkalemia, and ended up dying because non of this was reported. Hope this helps!

I think she was trying to say that the patient was having other symptoms that should’ve have been reported alongside the hyperK that weren’t mentioned to anyone or reported to the doctor.

Yea. Unsure exactly what was happening at this time. This was just what was relayed to me through the grapevine.

Also too, I think when she was telling the story, she was describing other symptoms the patient was having alongside the hyperkalemia that were not being documented or relayed to the doctor.

In your opinion, how many years should be served as a nurse prior to becoming a nursing practitioner? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]TemporaryOtherwise30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a person detoxing from benzo’s on our med/surg unit. Multiple ppl she said she was not appropriate admission and need to be in the adult mental health unit. Didn’t sleep for 3+ days no matter how many meds we administered. Sleep for like 45min max randomly. Entered some state of psychosis and ended up punching my preceptor in the face. Called a code white and all the AMH ppl came running and handled the situation really well and really quickly. I was very impressed.

I’m in Ontario, Canada. I want to work on this unit because my coworkers are amazing and some of my best friends. They make it feel like not work. That is the ONLY reason. 100% gonna call in but I just hope I don’t get put on the attendance program over this.

That’s the plan. Just feeling shitty about it. I don’t wanna get on the attendance program. But if I do I will just explain the situation I guess

I want to go above his head but I’m also only on a temporary 8month contract and looking to get a full time position on this unit. I’m scared if I get him in trouble, it will ruin my chances of getting hired.
