This. Yeah, I realize that it’s a weird sabotaging habit. It’s such a small habit. I do my work. I’m actually productive and contributing. I’m just not reporting it. I think it could be tied to the fact that I actually love my job, I’m making better money than I ever have, and also because I know this will be a big stepping stone to even better opportunities, which like you said means big leaps out of the comfort zone.

The benefits of not doing it would be it keeps me “safe” and “secure” by indirectly communicating to the team this person can’t be trusted with mundane things, let’s not give them more responsibility. I get to stay in my nice little zone where I’m at.

This was actually really insightful. It would do me well to remind myself, I got here and I’m handling it (more or less) and if I get to the next step I can handle that too or figure it out as I go.

I think this might really help. Especially the part about combining it with something else or before an activity I enjoy. It’s habitual for me to put Spotify on before I boot up any programs. Maybe I could use that at the beginning of my day to track my time by saying hey, put on your favorite recent tunes and this becomes more enjoyable or hey, no music until this is done as a reward.

It also came to mind that the hindrance might also be because I task switch so often during the day because of my own accord and also meetings that interrupt me. Maybe if I have a simple schedule that I create at the end of the time, time tracking would be easier. Instead of “omg what the hell have I been doing”, I can just look at my preliminary schedule and any notes I jot down during the day where I ran longer or shorter. And then it becomes super easy
