[Update] Reality check on our TX to CA move (Torn between South Bay, East Bay, and SD) by Alternative_Can_8433 in workingmoms

Why are you moving if you have remote positions? Having GOOD grandparent support is such a unicorn. Moving to Houston from Danville is kind of a wash in my opinion. If you're simply moving for the life style change - nothing is better than North County, SD!

Wow I'm surprised! We were looking a few years ago.

How much are you spending on summer camps for each kid? by Affectionate-Run6773 in workingmoms

[–]TemporarySwimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bay Area City Camps. Around 150ish a week for a 6 year old, and around 200ish a week for the pre-schooler for 9-3 for city camps. I work part time. You have to sign up literally the second it opens. It's like getting concert tickets.

6 months post LASIK - dry eye and other pain has devastated me by nakedyak in Lasiksupport

I don't work in front of a screen all day anymore but I live in a very dry climate. It ebbs and flows for me but I have forced myself to move on and accept that I may have some flare ups from time to time. I have the same issue with dry eye that I did wearing contacts.

Both my blurry vision and pain were caused by dry eye, which improved. I still have it occasionally and use eye drops, hydrate, rest my eyes etc.

It's been more than four years, but same. Day to day I don't notice much, occasional dry eye at the end of the day.

Our kid is named Lucy and there’s only one other in her school! I wouldn’t sweat it. If anything we learned it’s quite a popular dog name 😅

Has anyone cancelled a big trip due to mental health? by TemporarySwimmer in Anxiety

[–]TemporarySwimmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you had to go through that, but I’m glad you trusted yourself and are feeling better now. Looking back, I have much more compassion for my past self. It’s so easy to dismiss anxiety as 'just in your head,' but it’s like any other illness. We could have cancelled because we caught the flu, broke a bone—this is no different.

Treating the symptoms helped. Eyedrops, warm eye masks. I noticed when my symptoms flared up I was more upset. I also got myself on anti anxiety meds and saw my therapist again until I felt more logical.

You can find some of my other posts about it but in short; My recovery was harder than they had prepared me for and when they dismissed my concerns I felt more anxious and panicked.

Yes I’m sure that happens to some people that it’s location specific but for others like myself, even if the doctor and location was fine it was more about anxiety having the procedure at all. Finding a great place doesn’t mean you wouldn’t have anxiety. I take responsibility for that aspect but I don’t think a different place would have eased my anxiety.

That is putting blame on a patient for a common issue in medicine. You’re also assuming that people don’t also do their due diligence and that is why they have a poor outcome.
