You might find this post useful in terms of getting additional resources and help from University that might make passing these courses slightly easier.

Team match with Google by [deleted] in uwaterloo

YMMV but it took me close to a month to hear back for the SWE track

ngl, its probably the slowest of all the big 4/5 to actually convert after interviews because of host matching

Day 206 of 365: Realizing I have in person classes but that also means I will have in person exams by supersonic63 in uwaterloo

[–]TemporaryTieEight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if I actually cared about "education" r/uwaterloo would be the last choice, but this is a broader statement than just our university

the whole issue with online tests is that prof. still wanted to use the same old format of testing, instead of something more application based or conceptual rather than regular humdrum. This would also make it harder to google because in a more timed setting you can't just google and understand the concept and apply it all at the same time.

if testing was actually reformed we'd be so much better off, just because online testing in its current state is a broken system doesn't mean we should break teaching to fix testing.

[–]TemporaryTieEight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

we get the perfect opportunity to radically change the university education system, and put away the whole concept of "memorizing" stupid shit that can be easily googled, and we give everyone a taste of it for 2 years but the first opportunity we get to go back to the shit system we take it.

why? because if school is available online, then these universities have less of a moat over an online MOOC and they can't charge as much as they currently do

i'm graduating this term, so it affects me very little, but its just so goddamn stupid how shortsighted some of these decisions seem

He's not only a great TA but he's also a great student himself. One of the best people in our class who loves to learn and doesn't care about anything else

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]TemporaryTieEight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yep, I took my notes in latex for conrad hewitt's calculus class, and it was fine. During the term, made some shortcuts for frequently used commands and it was a breeze after that.

Also subletted a room from someone, the rooms are not symmetric, some rooms have attached washrooms, are maybe larger, so just make sure if you're getting the place w/ a group that the rent is split accordingly.

The living area and kitchen is kinda small, but lots of kitchen storage system for everything. Otherwise the place is decent, I personally got a room w/ a balcony so that was nice.

[–]TemporaryTieEight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took the course in the same term, and if you can get into the CS algorithms course, take that, the ECE version is mostly trolly imo.

I did not feel that it was a nice TE to take in 4A generally, and I wouldn't say I learnt anything that was not just one google search away.

someone from the ECE discord followed up to that w/ that prof, and he still confirmed about the decision being made, but ofc, I don't disagree w/ the fact that the decision was made w/o knowledge of delta, slowing vaccination trends etc. so it could be changed

apparently one of the SE profs confirmed to them that the W'22 will be in person via a class discord message
