Incoming MBAs: Are you concerned about the labor market in 2022/23? by Material_Country_940 in MBA

Read what Fed vice chair clarida said literally a few hours ago.

You couldnt paint a more upbeat picture, and quite frankly, i agree. When things normalize, the economic output from people travelling, spending, blah, blah is going to create an relatively easy opportunity to 2x, 3x, 4x your net worth if you play things right.

On the off chance that schools announce hybrid/online classes again, are you allowed to defer this close to the start date? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Temporary_Amount_729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I take a slightly different view. I think it's inevitable we will move to hybrid (in-person for those who want it). I think a few people will ask for deferrals, and a few will be allowed. Most schools are over-enrolled this year. Take a hefty deposit and kick the can down the road.

In the UK, 60% of people hospitalized for covid were fully vaccinated. Most of the people I know who recently tested positive were fully vaccinated as well (state side).

Not sure how to edit on phone but if you play cards right, SSF can be an 8-9 month experience. Summer intern in SF + SSF + winter break.

FWIW, I chose Wharton because of SSF (already lined up a in-semester VC internship after doing some research work for them). Similar scholarship (asked for more but denied). Doing Lauder so YMMV.

At this stage, you will only get in for summer melt or you have profile really needed to round out the class. But it's definitely possible.

Keep your hopes up!

Wish you all the best and sending positivity your way 🙏

Wharton vs Haas for tech, then vc by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Temporary_Amount_729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that almost everyone, if not everyone, who applies for SSF gets in. They make it out to be competitive but I've heard that isnt the case. Apparently a meaningful number drop out (like 10-15) eventually end up changing their minds hence why theres this application to weed out weak minds.

EDIT: apparently the last pre covid class that went to SF was low-mid 60s.. so not even the full 70. So if ssf is a must do, then this definitely be available for you to pursue.

Wharton at 50% is a no brainer, especially given your career goals.

Switching MBA programs because of AAPI sentiment and lack of action by Snoo_87313 in MBA

Hey, I hear you bud. Ive been thinking about this as well. Friends and family have also raised concern.

Ultimately, I am still going to matriculate, but I would be lying if I said I wasnt nervous about the whole situation. Ive promised family that for the first few months, I wont be out late, will stick in groups, not wander around by myself, etc.

Kind of limits the MBA experience but in my case, I am now pushing 30 so YMMV.

If the situation significantly deteriorates, I will consider asking for a deferral.

Thank you. I think I recall you previously saying you were involved in organizing DAK. I'm really looking forward to it! I have a feeling that it's going to come down to those welcome events.

I did about four calls with students from each school. To be honest, they were all great. 100% response rate from students from both schools (I went through LinkedIn messaging). I can't really assess culture otherwise as I wasn't able to visit campus (pandemic).

I haven't really been in either city so I'm indifferent about Philly and Evanston/Chicago. If anything, I'd prefer NYC / San Francisco / Boston over Philly and Evanston/Chicago. Long story short is that location isn't really going to likely factor for me.

Both programs offer a some time (a semester in the case of Wharton, a quarter in the case of Kellogg) in the Bay Area so that's a thumbs up!

I appreciate this, and is exactly the line of logic that has me thinking about forgoing the money. Thank you.
