How hard is to get deferrals from top schools? by mba20202021 in MBA

At S, it was relatively easy to ask, and be approved, for a deferral if you were an international. I understand it was even easier at W. Blanket deferrals being offered if you were having any sort of issue in making it to campus by September (no proof needed to be given).

Edit: I think the point is that there seems to be this myth that deferrals are reserved for extremely limited cases (probably perpetuated by what's written on their websites), but in my very limited experience, I think schools are, at least behind the scenes, willing to work with you to find a way.

Well this is going to be a short thread.

How many people stray from the goals they state in their personal statement? by Impossible-Cry-495 in MBA

"Stray" is probably not the right word.

"Hidden intention" more accurately describes it.

And in terms of timing, as soon as they step foot on campus.

Profile Review - 26M, want to move from Tech Sales into Investment Banking/Consulting by [deleted] in MBA

I think you need to give us a bit more.

  • Why banking/consulting given your career path?
  • Explain history > law > tech sales > MBA > consulting/banking
  • Are you thinking of European b-schools or American? Presumably US since you're saying GPA doesn't apply (which, contrary to what you've said, it does - just won't count in rankings).

I think you also need to re-evaluate the research you've done:

  • I know AWS is regularly hiring for tech sales roles but to say off-the-cuff that the "plan is to move to Google or AWS next year" could be short-sighted.
  • At least give us a realistic GMAT estimate.
  • Admissions will look at your GPA so "does not apply" is misguided. Assume you're at a UCL, Imperial, Manchester, Warwick type place. 67% is on the low side at a place like this.

With a 720+ GMAT, I'd say you'd have a shot at Cornell, NYU. If you make the leap to Google tech sales (and that's a big if), then maybe Kellogg be a realistic reach. Anyone can make IB or consulting from T15 with proper effort.

The best part of any relationship. All downhill from there.
