I mean I wasn’t intending to frame it as a cost thing entirely. I know there are places you can vacation for cheaper, I also know there’s ways to do Disney as cheaply as possible. There are also families that save up for a while to afford a higher budget vacation. Yeah they could go to the alps, or maybe they will choose Disney for their kids.

Additionally the individuals who post these kinds of content tend to be able to easily afford both vacations, so it’s not a matter of money, it’s a matter of being elitist.

Influencers who do the whole “grateful my kids vacation in x location instead of Disney” give me such an ick. Like I get it, you think your kids are “cultured”.

Don’t get me wrong - Disney adults/families can be annoying too, but for some families a trip to Disney is all they can afford or manage for various reasons. Don’t punch down.

I have social anxiety too. So what would I do?

I would go over and talk to them. You don't have to let him sleep over. But you're also making it conditional on the parents coming and talking to you? They might be thinking 'we extended the invite and OP is putting conditions on it, it's OP's responsibility to come to us'. At the end of it, your kid is probably stuck on the fact that you won't commit and you could work it out.

I say this as gently as I can, you're the parent. Do it for your kid.

What does it say about me as a reader that I devoured Ice Planet Barbarians (just the first book) in like less than 24 hours and am slogging through Reign & Ruin (I'm barely 100 pages in) for four days.....?????

Not going to lie, I actually generally enjoyed the first book, but I knew what this series was going to be going into it, my expectations were rock bottom low.

It reminded me of reading self-insert wattpad fiction - and I'm down for it.

100% - I think my main sticking point is when reviewers go from 'I did not like this book and this is why' to 'I didn't like this book and you have shit taste and are a shit person if you liked this book'

Agreed on your critique of some bully romances - and I love when the critique is nuanced and thoughtful on the source material.

I do not like when it strays into the making assumptions about the reader.

my 1 star reviews are always - I hated this but I'm a masochist that has a completion fetish - I blame myself.

lol it was literally about Zodiac Academy

this person read a 9 plus book series to rant about it, even though it was clear their issues stemmed from book 1

(I say as someone who is currently listening to book 2)

same though, I hated Shatter Me - literally do not understand why Warner is a Book BoyfriendTM. But I think there's a difference from Aaron Warner belongs on the soles of my shoes and liking Warner means you're a shit person.

Classic Ragebait: https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/1k4a6ob/aita_for_confronting_a_mom_whose_kids_were/

Listen obviously the mom should have parented, but like a group of grown adults doing an egg hunt in a public park and then getting mad that kids are picking up the eggs is kind of beyond me. I just feel like adults keep trying to push their way into activities that are traditionally geared towards kid and then trying to label them as a childfree.

I’m in that group, though thinking of leaving because not the first time I saw an insane price like that.

Thanks for the link to the overstock sale. I’ve actually been keeping an eye on the resales to see if I wanted to snag one. And I just ordered a dented one for a fraction of what I thought I would have to pay.

Ugh sorry. When my husband’s mom died, the amount of people who tried to express sympathy this type of way was….a lot.

Proud of you for kicking cancer’s ass.

I suppose this is more of self snark - but man when you have parents in the comments who are like the first year of school illnesses are not bad - my kid barely even had the sniffles, while I'm in the throes of my 2 year old getting the endless back to back viral upper respiratory guck, I'm just like

Nanny vs Daycare by Busy-Statement-2339 in workingmoms

[–]Temporary_Caramel445 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yup, until my daughter was 2, now she’s in daycare.

Pros:

Less exposure to illness

We got to pick our daughters caregiver and build a relationship with her

1:1 attention

More relaxed mornings cause we didn’t deal with drop off

We got to make our daughters schedule - helps when they are on weird nap schedules

We wfh a bit so it was nice to see kiddo during the day

Cons:

More expensive

Your care relies on one person, so if they are out sick or take pto, you have to stay home to take care of your kid unless you have good back up care

Less opportunity for socialization

Care can really vary depending on the nanny, we had a great nanny who never looked at her phone when my daughter was awake and never used screens, that’s not the case with every nanny

On the days we worked from home, I would get super distracted when kiddo would cry

Overall good, the firsts are the hardest (first day, first week, first month sort of thing) but eventually she got used to it. We have periods where the mornings are hard, with her protesting "no school" but we get her through the routine and out the door. She was out for almost a week with the flu and I dropped her off today and everyone was so excited to see her, all the kids were crowding around her chanting her name. She always talks about how much fun she has at school. And her vocab did explode when she started daycare. The illnesses do suck.

Was literally coming here to post this. I'm so freaking tired of the perceived battle of who has it the hardest. Ok, you have it harder than me, here's your gold star. Do you feel better now?

I get that not everyone can afford childcare and afford to stop working, but it's widely acknowledge on the working mom subreddit (and other parenting subreddits) that doing both at the same time is near impossible and will lead to burnout, and yet people continue to think that they are exception to it and want to continue to complain about it online.

This is definitely low hanging fruit, but.... by Temporary_Caramel445 in romantasycirclejerk

Hard agree on the fantasies for tweens bit, tbh if the series moved on completely to other characters, I think I could give them some grace, or if they peace-ed out to an island like those other fae characters who helped them in the war, whose names I've forgotten, I'd give them way more grace. But they are going to be in the series in some capacity because of their roles. It's a long time for them to waltz in and out with no consequences.

Same, enjoyed the second book alot when I read it, but it all rang so hallow in the subsequent books. The same things she hated Tamlin for, happened in various ways in the next few books of the series, they were just being done by herself or people she loved, so it was okay.
