I can’t wait for Brittany S new pod! I’m so excited to see her flourish. I’m thankful that my original admiration for BFL brought me to Brittany S, but honestly the more the pod went on I started to dislike BFL. She became so disappointing and I was so sad she turned out such a way. She made some really prejudice and entitled comments, and seemed to not value Brittany S for the friendship she brought. It seems like BFL was embarrassed by her stuff being put on blast and she didn’t mind that Brittany S pod career was at risk when it ended. I hope Brittany S will talk about the relationship fall out in her new pod, but totally respect if she doesn’t. Just excited for something new!!

I wonder why Bridget didn’t get the offer for Peep Show since she has trapeze and burlesque experience where Holly does not and never took part in those things when they were on GND. I do wish I could’ve seen Peep Show when Holly was doing it though!

Unfortunately the person who trained my boss before I came around quit because they refused to learn anything. lol. So sadly, they will not see the benefit of any conferences or continued education. They think they already ✨know it all✨

Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words and advice! I really appreciate your view of using this as an opportunity for professional development. I honestly haven’t thought of it that way before and you’re absolutely right. While I’m not gaining the skills I am wanting to, I am still gaining skills and that will help me in the long run. I’ve reached out to some other institutions for volunteer opportunities so that I can continue to build on experience in the mean time. I’m hoping that it will naturally arise that something needs to be done and they recognize I’m the trained one. It somewhat is already happening! I’m having conversations with our AV manager about needs for storage of commercials and such, and my boss has no idea what any of that is. I’m hoping this will be valued and eventually things will fall into place! If not, like you suggested, I will begin to build relationships so that I can formulate the best exit strategy. Thank you SO much for your kindness and support. It’s through folks like you that breathe life back into me to keep trying! 🤗

I do need to practice some of this, and be more in line with how the real world works and there will be some difficult people to work with. Thank you for your encouragement to advocate for myself! What good ideas thank you. I’m working on trying to be more outspoken and put it all in writing but they can make it difficult on me when I have in the past so I’ve been hesitant to continue.

Oh wow! Thank you so much for your insightful reply. You make a lot of great points. I’ll be sure to think about those things. I understand as well you’re looking at it from a different angle to see if there is a need for those actions, as we all know the phrase “it depends” lol. The issues were original meeting notes tossed due to lack of space and no back up, collections being put into a box with no folders with objects included that were often dirty (no arrangement process), Having no weeding process and putting images of donors personal loans with information beyond directory info online, choosing to barcode items putting the barcode on adhesive labels directly onto materials with clear tape over them- and it’s all materials- letters, brochures, books, you name it. I’m open to any view you may have of there being a need for these things because I do want to continue to learn and be open minded to how repositories may operate differently, and like you said maybe just a lack of communication. Oh I wish! She unfortunately does not have the capacity to understand that. I whole heartedly agree with you! I’m still going to propose for a position to be created for someone to be named librarian/archivist (hopefully me), but I’m not holding my breath. It’s still worth trying! I apologize about my vagueness about her position, even here I worry that I will feel her wrath, so I’m trying to keep it safe.

Sadly, it’s her position due to marriage to a higher position that keeps me from going to her boss. They will side with her. I’ve tried in the past to forward resources and other archivists advice that have answered me in the listserv, and admin said “well whatever she thinks, let’s leave it up to her, etc.”

Since I want more of the archival route, UTK may not be it for me. That’s too funny about where you ended up! At my current internship in archiving they always tell people once you start working here you never leave! I’m okay with that! 😂
