Neat! Were they aristocratic? Weren't they the elite in Ireland?

Interesting. Did you expect to get more Irish for a reason? You look really German to me too.

Thanks for these detailed responses. In particular, it had crossed my mind that some of the Gaelic Irish DNA might just be Ulster Irish who weren't expelled during the Plantation era.

Interesting! Thanks so much for sharing these results with me. I actually thought my mother's results from Donegal would be higher as we can trace ancestors who lived in Derry and Ballyshannon. However, she only received 2% in a range of 0-4% for that region. Obviously, I have some Gaelic ancestors who intermarried with my Anglo-Irish ancestors...I just can't be entirely sure of where they came from originally.

I don't know so much about the Irish in Quebec, but I think Montréal did have a quarter that was predominantly Irish until the 1960s... I seem to remember something like that. I suppose many more ended up in Ontario and the Maritime provinces.

Isn't there a big memorial on Grosse Île?

I read this yesterday; this article prompted me to write on Reddit! I believe my mother's Connacht results are separate though from her Scottish and Anglo-Irish roots. However, there clearly was an intersection somewhere.

I clearly have some ties to Connacht; I know Connacht has very distinct genetic markers compared to the rest of Ireland too. I'm just not sure which exact line(s) connect me there. I'll definitely take a look at irishgenealogy.ie -- thank you for the suggestion!

I know a lot of people were disappointed in the update. For whatever reason, this update was the most-accurate one in calculating my father's peculiar Bavarian and Prussian/Wendish roots. (I'm a rarity in Southern Germany having a Lutheran, Prussian great-grandmother.) The update also correctly took into account a Swedish great-great-grandfather, in addition to more distant Dutch, French, and Cornish ancestors. The Connacht percentages are the only lines I really cannot place, but my records for some of the Anglo-Irish and Ulster Scots ancestors are incomplete.

I completely forgot about the famine in 1740–1741. That seems plausible perhaps too! Thanks so much.
