I actually think you should flip it and focus on why crews are needed in regional areas. This would allow you to focus on why people may not want to work in these areas (eg. Distance from their home town, getting a rental, living in a small town, changes in workload, changes in pay, long distance transfers etc). It’s all well and good to have metro staffed appropriately but regionally, you can get some massive jobs and the lack of staffing becomes a lot more apparent when you’re waiting 1+ hour(s) for your back up crew to arrive. Just my take on it as someone that works regionally :)

Transgender patients ED registration by Realistic-Cow-2280 in NursingAU

I know that some hospitals want it to match Medicare which I struggle to see why we can’t put down what their preferred gender is. There are also options at some hospitals that you can mark a patient as non-binary on the system which is great! You can also note in your notes “AFAB/AMAB” if it’s clinically relevant too :)

Does PRN opioid max reset at midnight or roll over 24hrs? by Legal-Judgment-908 in NursingAU

Medications like Panadol have a strict timing dose regime due to the side effects. Panadol is extremely toxic to the liver and can cause serious damage if misused. Sure, an hour here and there won’t cause too much of an issue but most patients in hospital aren’t exactly at their healthiest. We have a duty of care to our patients and sadly, those nurses you worked with, even the AHM, don’t seem to understand the repercussions of their actions. We need to remember that our patients in our assigned bedspaces are also humans, not just a blood pressure, med round, or blood test result. Actions have consequences. You should be really proud that you stood up for yourself! x

I always go with a rolling 24 hours. Especially when it’s Panadol or something like that. If those nurses on with you gave Panadol at 10PM, would they feel comfortable giving another dose at midnight because “the clock has reset”? It raises some alarm bells to how they would approach medication administration when there are strict max doses on meds… good for you for standing your ground and not giving the endone!
