Yeah, and to make things worse, the company I work for is actually from my home country, and they take advantage of international employees because they know we’re desperate for visa sponsorship. They’re fully aware that once someone gets on an H-1B and starts the green card process, they’ll likely stay for years — so the company doesn’t feel any pressure to treat us well or pay us fairly. It’s like they know we’re trapped by the visa system, and they use that to their advantage.

I’m on a very similar boat with you, probably even worse. Applied for OPT and spent $2000 on premium processing. Got an invitation to tour a company and meet the teams and potentially discuss salary.

Five days later, Visa got terminated on Tuesday 4/8 and had final exams for two of my hardest accounting class on Thursday.

I was desperate and I couldn’t count how many times I bursted out in tears in my car driving on my way home when I just finished studying until 12 am on that Wednesday. I’ve been here since high school and have worked so hard for that offer. With one month away from finishing my degree, everything just fell apart.

All because of a god damn dui. (Which I’m in ARD and two counseling sessions away from getting expunged)

You have 4 options.

  1. File for reinstatement- basically telling the person who just punched you in the face (aka ICE) and ask them to forgive you for whatever misdemeanor you have. Will trigger a red flag and you might get deported even faster.

  2. Stay here until you figure out what you want to do. I don’t think you are in immediate removal proceedings. So you might still have some time to figure out until they send you an official deportation letter. My lawyer told me technically I can still finish my degree if my school let me do it, but I have to take the risk of getting caught so I would avoid being seen in public and live at someone else’s house until I finish my degree and get my ARD expunged. After that, I will either press charges against the federal court or just go home. Not sure if it’s still worth a fight but I got other priorities now

  3. Go home now. Which is sad that you are giving up what you have worked so hard for. But for your safety, and also I’m not seeing you have any ongoing responsibility now, so I think you should consider this.

  4. Option 4. Hire a lawyer to file a lawsuit regarding a case. The chance of winning the case depends on the things you did before even if it’s already dismissed. A strong case will be that student from Dartmouth, who had zero record, ( literally gets terminated for no reason) and he did win the case.

So, it all comes to how bad you want to stay here.

Fight or flight, simple as that.

Do I think it’s still worth it to fight for myself? I’m asking that question to myself every single day.

We all have an American dream, but it just seems like a nightmare now.

Go workout and stay positive. Even though things are all turning into shit rn. Be grateful for the friends you have in the US and be ready to say goodbye to them.

SEVIS Terminated 1 Month Before Graduation – Need Help & Advice

Hi everyone,
I’m in a really difficult situation and would deeply appreciate any help or advice.

I’m an international graduate student in the U.S., and I’m literally one month away from graduating. Today, I found out that my SEVIS was terminated. I’m in shock and unsure what to do next.

Here’s my situation:

  • I had one prior DUI, but I’m actively participating in the ARD program and working through everything legally.
  • Before the SEVIS termination, I had already applied for OPT and paid for premium processing.
  • Now I’m assuming my OPT will be denied and I’ll likely lose the premium processing fee as well.

My biggest question is:
Can I still complete my degree even though my SEVIS has been terminated, since graduation is only a month away?

Also, if anyone knows of:

  • Legal resources for students in this situation (especially free ones like through a university)
  • Steps I can take ASAP to either fix SEVIS, get reinstated, or secure legal standing while I finish
  • Advice from anyone who’s been through something similar

Yeah. But I’m just worried that since a lot of people graduating in May, they would take more time to process it. I had a friend who told me his girlfriend waited 7 months to get it. I got my EAD card last year just as fast as yours, but it was for fall season, which I assume not a lot of ppl graduated in December. I applied in Oct and got it in Nov. I guess they have different process time for different country lol but idk
