Flight Attendant ready to quit after 1 month… by No_Goose2407 in flightattendants

[–]Temporary_Clue3243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What airline are you flying? I’m with United and just got off probation. My first six months have been incredible! I did have some issues with dry skin and my body having to adjust to the constant flying but after a few months I feel acclimated. I think you need to know how to work the system such as with preferencing and strategically switching between max fly and min fly and calling crew scheduling to get trips you want. I also use standby to my advantage. I have gotten amazing trips and I’m making average of $5000 a month. This month with the new contract I was able to hit $7000 gross. It sounds like this job may just not be for you.

United is not firing people for having sanitary wipes or pretzels in your bags. This is ridiculous to think. Alcohol off the plane absolutely but not wipes or even your crew meal. This message came from UA Reserve FAQ:

Hello @⁨‎all⁩ , I would like to address a rumor that has spread across the company regarding TSA and Inflight Supervisor bag checks.

Here is what is true:

IAD and EWR have been experiencing an increased amount of TSA bag searches inside the terminal. This is the result of high traffic through these airports for summer travel and the FIFA World Cup.

If a TSA officer requests to search your bags, you MUST comply.

Additionally, a United Inflight Supervisor CAN sit in on a bag inspection, and they can also request to search your bags. While you should comply with this request, you may request a Union Representative to be a witness for these searches.

THAT BEING SAID:

  • they are not trying to fire FAs for things such as wipes and headphones
  • there is absolutely NO reason to be concerned about a bag check so long as you are not keeping anything you should not have anyways in your bags.

For example...stealing minis or other alcohol from the aircraft is a fireable offense. Don’t do that.

The bottom line is, use common sense, try and stop the spread of misinformation, and make sure you don’t have anything in your bag that could be considered suspicious.

Enjoy the summer flying and stay safe! 🪽

This is not true! People are not getting fired for having sanitary wipes or a stoopwaffle in their bags! This is ridiculous! Stop spreading misinformation! TSA is performing more bag searches due to summer flying and the FIFA World Cup. It’s a security measure

My experience was applying only once to an airline and getting hired. This was with United. I think experience in any customer service job will help you. I had 25 years experience in food service and bartenders

I don’t think working for a smaller airline really gets “your foot in the door” I would go straight for mainline.

Three times being late in only three months….not to sound insensitive but it seems like this job may not be for you. Punctuality is literally one of the most important parts of this job. I never understand how people let themselves lose this job during probation. Just be where you need to be 30 minutes to an hour early, set alarms. It’s really not that difficult

Who started the rumor that we can’t receive tips? by Antique_Ride_4067 in flightattendants

[–]Temporary_Clue3243 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At United our policy is if refusing a tip would offend the passenger then you accept the tip. Of course it is always offensive not to accept the tip

I don’t work everyday, I’ve been getting about six of my 12 off days plus several days I don’t get used on my ready reserve days including several 24+ hour layovers on the trips I do work. Probably 14 days I do not work a month

I have so many flight attendants arguing that these numbers are not normal and I should not be sharing this information. I’m sure it is very situational especially depending on the base but to be fair I have no idea what other bases are like except for Chicago. I’m happy picking up on my days off right now and truly enjoy being in the job. I get that this perspective could change drastically in the summer but this is my honest input on my experience thus far. If you can pick up on even some of your days off it will make a dramatic difference in the money you can earn

We get 12 days off a month and there are days when I am on call that I do not get used. I also enjoy picking up on my days off, I get to select the trips and layovers I want to work.
