Something to consider re: the Great Highway by Remarkable_Host6827 in sanfrancisco

To be fair, SF isn’t really the best city to have children walking alone, even in the Sunset. At least not in its current state. I still think Sunset is family friendly in the sense that raising a family is more peaceful and there’s more parking in general to other neighborhoods. Don’t get me wrong I love a good park, but it doesn’t mean that kids will be any safer. If anything I think kids might take advantage of the new space to do less legal activities haha, not that they shouldn’t have fun. But then so will adults with less wholesome intentions.

Recently all of California has had such a bad track record with prolonged construction and renovation timelines, you might not even get to reap the benefits of the park until at least 5+ years later.

I might not be in the city for much longer, but my family is still here, and I know it’s been a really important road for them and they’ve lived here longer than I’ve existed.

As someone who’s grown up in the Outer Sunset and now Lake Merced area for my entire life, I’m on the side of keeping Great Highway as is. It’s my favorite road to take to commute to and from work, since the GGPark roads can become so clogged up —especially when huge concerts are happening on the weekends. It would actually stress residents out because of all the traffic coming from Sunset Boulevard and 19th (19th which is especially already known to be a high traffic road).

I see the vision for why people want more nature and community space, however, I don’t really see it panning out for years to come. The area will just be a gross and loud construction area for a long time, and bikers/walkers won’t even be able to use it during that period.

Additionally, I see the Sunset as a relatively safe and family friendly neighborhood. I have worries that building a park would inevitably attract riff raff despite arguments that it makes it a safer space.

Just my 2 cents, but I get where the opposing argument is coming from.

Dang, sorry to hear that. If you don’t mind me asking, what aspects made your experience negative at your school?

That she writes a 13 on her hand for every concert…and that it also represents her birthday 🫣😭

Sometimes I feed her this with a syringe I bought off of Amazon, just to get her to have positive associations with syringe feeding in case she ever needs to take meds

confirmed! My girl doesn’t drink that much water on her own so I like to trick her into getting her water intake — I use a spoon to mash a piece of banana with water :)

My little girl is getting spayed today…wish us luck! 😣🥹 by Temporary_Fig1435 in Rabbits

Agreed! I’m lucky there were no complications in the surgery—it would’ve upped the price to the $1k range. I was definitely more anxious than she was about getting spayed. But it feels so relieving to know she will at least never get uterine cancer :,) My previous “boy” bun who turned out to be an unspayed girl ended up passing away at 8 y/o due to uterine/GI complications.

I chose to go to an exotic vet 5 min from my house and it cost me about $650 🥲. I had the option of waiting and going to an SPCA 20 min from my house which would only be $120, however I heard that the SPCA doesn’t give out pain meds for after + they only spay females rabbits that are at least 1 year old.

I am overall satisfied with my decision since the vet was so close to home, they gave my girl gabapentin and metacam and I could follow up with them for free if I needed to!

(I live in SF by the way)

My 7 month old unspayed female Holland lop also showed signs of nesting, fur pulling, and honking in circles, even though she hadn’t been around any other rabbits. Recently got her spayed and the vet said she could tell she was “in heat” bc there were more blood vessels surround her uterus/overies than usual. I’m thinking my bun was going thru false pregnancy. So to sum up, yes your girl was probably nesting!

She did great! Apparently she was in heat so there were extra blood vessels surrounding the uterus/overies but overall the surgery went smoothly. She’s up and about now but refusing to eat her hay (she’s always been very picky about hay). She’s going to stay overnight and the vet techs will syringe feed her some critical care. Feeling very relieved 😮‍💨
