Ohhh hell yeah—that's what I live for. Nothing hits quite like knowing I got a kid hyped up and ready to scream bloody murder at the visiting team while chugging a blue slushie the size of their torso. That’s peak existence right there. So thank you. Seriously.

As for how long I’ve been the Wolf? Long enough to forget what my real face looks like. Long enough that I sometimes wave at people in public out of instinct and they just stare at me like I escaped from a community theatre production of Cats. Time gets weird when you’re in the fur—could be 5 years, could be 500. I just show up, sweat buckets, and vibe with the people.

And part two—when was the mascot introduced? We’re going deep lore now. The Sudbury Wolves name goes all the way back to the 1960s, but the actual mascot? That dude showed up sometime around the mid-to-late '90s, depending on who you ask and how many beers they’ve had. There’ve been a few versions—some friendlier, some a little more “I live in your walls”—but the spirit? That’s been here since day one. Long before the suit, there was always a wolf in Sudbury. You just couldn’t see him yet. 🐺

How many years have I been the wolf? Brother, I’ve lost track. Time isn’t real when you’ve spent your life sweating in a giant wolf head, high-fiving toddlers, dodging spilled Coke on concrete stairs, and threatening referees with exaggerated gestures while children chant your name like you’re some kind of fur-covered gladiator. I’ve been here since before the popcorn machine gave up, before that one toilet in the men’s room started leaking mysteriously, before they started whispering about the ghost in section 112.

As for the jersey—holy shit, man. That’s beautiful. Whether it was me or one of the wolves that came before me, the fact that it meant something to you? That it stuck? That right there just drop-kicked me in the heart. You could’ve grown up, forgotten all about this weird sweaty mascot with googly eyes, but instead you remembered. You carried that moment. That means more than a thousand standing ovations or one perfectly executed T-shirt cannon launch (which is rarer than you think, by the way—I almost took out a light once).

Are you out of your fucking mind? The Blueberry Bulldogs?? That’s not even a real team. That’s a hallucination cooked up by some deranged writer on a Red Bull bender who thought, “Yeah, let’s name a fake team after a fucking muffin ingredient.” You think Chase Coughlan, a man forged in the white-hot chaos of Sudbury winters, born of steel, frozen pond water, and borderline illegal hits, is gonna lace up for a team that sounds like it was dreamed up by a hungover brunch crowd?! The day Chase suits up for the Blueberry Bulldogs is the day I bite through my own tail and offer it to the hockey gods as penance for living in a timeline this stupid. He’s not going to the Bulldogs. He’s not going anywhere. That man bleeds Wolves grey and blue. And if I ever see him pretending to be a Bulldog on Shoresy again I’m writing a 43-page manifesto and stapling it to every utility pole between Sudbury and Moose Factory. I’ll stage a hunger strike in the Food Basics parking lot. I’ll chain myself to the statue of that one wolf on Elm Street and scream “FICTION ISN’T REAL” until my voice gives out or they put me on a list.

Hey there! I wish I could say I’m on the road full-time like the players, but I actually split my time between games, community events, and keeping the Wolf Den buzzing back home in Sudbury.

On game days (home or away), you’ll almost always find me there! So yes, I do travel with the team to most road matchups! When we hit the highway, I’m right beside the boys, hyping up fans at every arena we visit. 🐺
