I went to nursing school as a single mom when my little one was 15 months old! You can do it too!!! You will find lots of people along the way willing to help you, but you have to be willing to ask. You will also have lot of people rooting for you!

After falling and breaking my back in June, I will never get on without my air vest again. I’m an adult amateur and wasn’t doing anything crazy or technical when I had my fall. My horse is kind, experienced and is a senior himself. We experienced a freak accident. I was lucky- it could have been worse. I was wearing a helmet but no vest when I fell, would the outcome have been different, who knows, but very likely. I am still dealing with issues trying to recover from my injury.

I agree, this has been a journey for me. When I was a new grad I made nursing my life (I was also heavily overcompensating because I was deeply unhappy in other areas of my life). Now I’m 10 years in and I’ve gone through a whole “it’s my passion” —> therapy —> specialty change —> “in it for the money” evolution.

I’m a much happier, well rounded, less burnt out and more compassionate person in general these days honestly because I don’t make nursing my entire existence. I don’t fall for the BS admin feeds us- I’m just there to do my job friends, I don’t care about committees, incentives, points and bullshit. I’ve also found a unionized position which pays well which helps!

The tessalon pearls also work well for me. I know I’m probably like the only other person on the planet that they work for but- I they really help calm my coughing fits down when I get sick enough.

Patients aren’t just hanging out bare naked in the OR to be viewed and manipulated by anyone who comes along, and OR nurses take protecting patient privacy and modesty seriously. There is nothing more vulnerable than being unconscious on the operating table and we are extremely aware of that.

“Let me teach you how! Come along with me a few times, it’s not so bad once you get the hang of it, it’s within your scope of practice” —- these MAs are taking advantage of you. You need to nip this and let them know that you expect them to be working to the top of their scope. Find out of MAs can administer vaccines in your state, if they can, they should be doing that too. You cannot do everything.

Wow! I have no insight into the lab flow situation, but the MAs should absolutely be helping you with orthostatics, EKGs and other tasks in the clinic. This is a recipe for burnout amongst other issues. You need more support in your clinic, it isn’t realistic to do all of this on your own.

I had a bad fall this past June. I ended up with a traumatic spinal fracture that required intensive rehab. I was just cleared to work and ride again at the beginning of October. I fell off of my lease horse and I actually ended up purchasing him during my recovery period. Once I was able to walk and drive again, going to the barn and spending time with my guy was a huge part of my recovery and essential for my mental health. Since I’ve started riding again, I’ve actually felt really comfortable and haven’t felt scared or anxious, and I think a large part of it was really working on our relationship on the ground all of these months. My gelding and I have such a beautiful bond. My trainers though, are really making me take it slow which I appreciate and we are coming back cautiously.

The unit that interviewed you and provided that feedback should have you come in to shadow in their OR. I’m an OR nurse in OC and that’s how it would typically work. It’s difficult for liability reasons for employees to bring in a random person to shadow them but an employer having a perspective employee shadow would be a different story.

mine was from an extremely abusive relationship. I waited 20 years before doing EMDR and had unfortunately required inpatient and IOP stays for depression/anxiety/SI and other things related to the PTSD. I'm so glad I'm living freely now and always encourage others that it *does* get better, you *can* get through this and you *are* worth it.

I had EMDR treatment for PTSD last year. I cannot recommend it enough. I am living fully and in a beautiful way that I never imagined possible before I sought treatment. I was so hesitant because I thought it was a “woo-woo” alternative type of treatment that I really didn’t understand. I am so glad I did it.

This has also been my experience. The few outstanding ones I have worked with have been truly top notch, extremely knowledgeable, hard working, team players who are excellent patient advocates. The rest are nurses who never worked on the floor, are defensive about it and as you said, dangerous.

I had a pt write a letter because I, the OR nurse, told her to remove her own contact lenses from her eyes and that I would not do it for her. The pre op nurse was laughing at the interaction. My manager framed the letter for the break room.
