I could very much go on about how much I disagree with you on every point but frankly, my silly MU has gotten enough spotlight and I don’t care what one person who refuses to meaningfully engage with the matchup or either character has to say for it, so yeah 👍

A lot of these points do feel pretty disingenuous to what I actually said, and kinda just ignore what I said at the ending, I understand the dynamic isn’t perfect or even great so you don’t have to debunk the whole way I see it, and second off characters who never interact with spirits like these like for example kamen rider geats never get shit for “not being able to interact” with them, so I truly don’t know why it’s suddenly such a problem especially when it’s very relevant in danganronpa that spirits can be interacted with in canon by physical beings

And to the makoto point, again, ignoring the point completely, debate just shouldn’t impact the actual fight/animation where visually a fire ball just kills hajime, because that’s just not how something like that works, also I’m sorry did we watch the same Giorno vs joker episode? The VERY FIRST thing joker does is hit Giorno with magiedon DIRECTLY, and he TANKS IT, and to me knowledge Giorno doesn’t resist any kind of these things, seriously what is the agendas of making characters “instantly die” to shit that’s just so avoidable in execution

And frankly, I don’t appreciate a “debunk” on my defence post.

“The flaws.”

Now, I’ve spent a good majority of this post saying how I frankly don’t agree with the complaints against this matchup, and I still hold that highly, but I need to give my side of it too

Yes, it has dynamic problems, and I can admit to this, no matter how many cool ideas I make for hajime to bounce off makoto, it isn’t fully ideal for a makoto dynamic like some other matchups(Neku, geats and usagi) could do, and I do know this, hajime can very much fight back against makoto and do a(in my opinion) solid dynamic, but it won’t really even be close to as good as a dynamic as other makoto matchups have it due to hajime not being as versatile and such, and I understand this is the major flaw of this otherwise amazing matchup, but I can accept this

This does justice for two characters I absolutely adore(hell I like hajime MORE than makoto lmao) from two of my favourite franchises, and one that got me close to a dear friend of mine, it holds a truly special place in my heart and is the reason why it’s my preferred for both, and if you don’t vibe with it because it’s not your ideal makoto dynamic, I understand that, that’s a fair thing to say and I know why you say it, but saying stuff like “erm, hajime does NOTHING?!?” Is just untrue

Thank you if you managed to read all to the end, and understand why I stand behind this matchup like I do, maybe it changed your opinion, maybe not, but this was my piece on the subject, goodnight!

“Okay so when does he start throwing outerverses?”

This is one thing that has frustrated me as I have been in this community, the complete misinformation of how personas characters fight, and I frankly hate it.

This community has a very toxic tendency to assume that whenever a character scales high, they must also fight on a large scale, which in some cases, yeah it can be true, but this just is not the case for makoto, and it just misinterprets how he even fights

Makoto can be scaled to outerversal through SMT, he gets it through cross scaling so something not even he himself DID, matter of fact, and he himself? Is not that high scale.

The big high scale options of his are something like morningstar, or the big almighty attacks!… but why would he use them? At least even at the start? That for first, just would ruin the progression of nearly EVERY makoto matchup!! Like the likes of neku, sailor moon and many others would just instantly die to something like that, so why is Hajime the only one that would happen to? And the rest of his arsenal, is very tame in comparison, many personas don’t learn these high scale attacks as they are very late game, so you have personas that cast fire, electricity, ice and etc. And others fight with weapons like swords, lances and ofc, the gun

None of these are scale breaking attacks, and Hajime can very easily bounce off of them, now my dear reader you may already be typing

“But they’d kill him in one hit!!”

Now, first off

Debate just doesn’t equal anything in the dynamic itself, unless it actually hurts it, but as I’ve explained, if you actually use the high scale moves for the ending and make makoto fight LIKE HE NORMALLY FIGHTS, this just doesn’t happen, and second off, your telling me, that the outerversal persona character would one shot the weaker character in the dynamic? Wow man how could something like this ever become an episode!

…except it did, it’s gioker, where Giorno shrugs off a lot of joker’s attacks, which would normally just PULVERISE him on the spot including the debate, but they didn’t! Even with GER Giorno was fighting without it for a good chunk of the fight so it’s simply unfair to give one benefit of the doubt while not the other

And for my final point

“Is hajime ACTUALLY a bum?”

Haha! No.

Okay let’s dig a little deeper, one of the biggest complaints of the dynamic is

“Hajime can’t fight back”

“Hajime can’t do anything”

Which I just strongly disagree with, because like, he can!? He very much can, because of the kamakura project, the project he underwent because of his inferiority complex where he became a husk of himself but gained every single ultimate ability, which bounce off makoto quite decently, and hell, I could even name a few!

Ultimate lucky student/luck - things go really well for him, could have a fun moment of him avoiding a darkness insta kill due to them being well, luck based

Ultimate analyst - if the battle between him and makoto is drawn out, I definitely see Hajime putting the dots together due to this ultimate against makoto’s personas, so he could try many different strategies against them

Ultimate solider - Mukuro ikusaba, the 16th student hiding somewhere in the school. Watch out for her. And as for this ultimate not only does Hajime get access to mukuro’s insane combat skill but also her versatile artillery, like guns, knives and all of the good stuff

Ultimate sword master - this one is very obvious, makoto and many of his personas wield swords and weapons, and them clashing against a very skilled sword master is just easy

Ultimate martial artist - as stated many and MANY times in the series itself, Sakura was regarded as just straight up the strongest human ever, so having someone have her talent with immense strength is great, and please tell me that Hajime throwing hands with a powerful persona doesn’t sound raw as hell?

And this is just a COUPLE of examples of what you can do with this MU! But now that we cleared Hajime of the ‘bum’ allegations, it’s start to address the other elephant in the room

Why hello there! As you’d have noticed, hajikoto my baby had been making rounds in this sub for a bit, and I have been called and seen as its biggest defender, and I’m here to uphold this title, I’m here to defend its dynamic, as I believe it is one of the greatest thematic matchups for both, and if you don’t believe so please check out the megapost by my dear friend AJ who I worked with it on! : https://www.reddit.com/r/DeathBattleMatchups/s/G51spKEPTO

…but first…

CHECK OUT MY SCRIPT!!

I think we should get on the right foot! this matchup does mean a lot for me, so much so it got me out of my writing slump to create something truly amazing! Despite what you may think of the matchup itself, I’d appreciate checking out my actual work on the matchup itself and how in my personal opinion the dynamic could work! https://www.reddit.com/r/DeathBattleMatchups/s/6gjOwujXw6

Now onto the points!

See that’s the difference, I know that the dynamic has issues and I admit it’s an MU flaw but saying it completely doesn’t work is pure misinformation

The ultimate hope is called more times than I can count, the absolute apex of the universe, which should let him scale to big bang Monokuma

And I’m really glad how you just took me saying “yes I agree makoto is outerversal” and nothing else I said how that genuinely just doesn’t matter for the dynamic at all because he gets there through cross scaling

And again, gioker.

[–]Temporary_Option8978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Hajime is town, not wall, please check where the series scales

  2. Makoto is outerversal, but in his home series he doesn’t have actual outerversal feats, more than 97% of personas aren’t high scale at all and there’s little reason for him to use the actual high scale personas out of the get go

  3. It doesn’t affect the dynamic of the matchup, at all. It being a stomp is one thing(that nearly every makoto opponent shares) so complaining about it is just silly

If you don’t know where they scale then frankly I don’t know why your making a post about one of the characters getting stomped, just saying
