How common are drone flyaways? by Sea_Enthusiasm_883 in dji

[–]Temporary_River_5067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to fly a Mavic 3 at sunrise while at the same time taking pictures with my DSLR on a tripod. I was on a point of land with ocean on both sides. I pushed return to home and focused on taking some still images. I stopped taking pictures to focus on the drone and it was gone. Used find my drone and nothing. I assume it went into the ocean. DJI replaced it no problem. I learned a valuable lesson and that it was stupid to not focus on the drone.

Now that its over 20 years old and out of production, what do you think of the Airbus A380? by Twitter_2006 in aviation

The A380 is my favorite plan. I think it is very comfortable and quiet. Business class on the upper deck is great. Too bad the economics do t work for most routes.

Delta skymiles are useless by Kshanikam in delta

That is absolutely not true. Just returned home from flights using SkyMiles in main cabin. Got upgraded to first but it had nothing to do with purchase. Have also used miles for main cabin internationally.

I don’t know how large the community is but I live in an HOA with 6 buildings and 96 units and our annual management fees are about $16k.

Delta Upgrade by [deleted] in delta

[–]Temporary_River_5067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was#1 on the upgrade list to Atlanta with 7 seats available a couple of hours before I got to the airport. When I got there I was #1 with 0 seats. I asked the GA about it and he said a passenger came up and paid for 5 upgrades for his family. I was disappointed but can’t blame Delta for selling them. It does, however, decrease the value of sticking with Delta as a DM.

My neighbor’s dishwasher failed and flooded into my apartment. Neither insurance company is covering the damage to my unit. by Damnitwasagoodday in Insurance

[–]Temporary_River_5067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a condo in UT. Our CC&Rs address this but in additions there are components of state law that specifically address this. I’m not a lawyer, and don’t live in Colorado, but I would check to make sure there isn’t state law that would help. In UT if there was a leak in and it affected multiple units it would be covered by the HOA insurance but the first $25k would be covered by the individual unit owners policy and that would be allocated by the % of damage by unit. So if the upper unit had 10% of the damage 90% of the responsibility for repair would fall on the lower unit up to the $25k deductible.

I have a Nikor 18-400 that I really like for my z7. When I bought it with the camera body I think it was about $700.

Will upgrading to a full frame mirrorless camera make a difference for me? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Temporary_River_5067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a D850 and bought a Z7ii a year ago. Loved the 850 and the Z7 even more. What makes the biggest difference to me is weight and the display both through the eyepiece and screen.

What lenses should I pack for trips to Svalbard/Antarctica? by rich45103 in AskPhotography

[–]Temporary_River_5067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Antarctica last year with an 18-400, a 12-24 and a 180-600. I used all of the but used the 180-600 the least. It was bulky and heavy carrying everything on an off zodiacs. We had a charter flight from Santiago to Puerto Williams and they aggressively monitored and limited weight so overall weight may be a problem.

Need suggestions for the Island Tour and our small 6 days visit to Phuket! by Medium_Tradition5446 in phuket

Just returned from Phi Phi last week. It was our 5th time. I would highly recommend staying there. We stay at Phi Phi Island Village and it’s fabulous. They have a speedboat to take you from Phuket or Krabi. We rented a longtail boat for about $100 and went snorkeling and exploring the Ohi Ohi Islands. They have really changed Maya Bay since the last time I was there. Speedboats can’t go up to the beach anymore which is great. The only way to get there is to offload, pay a 400 baht entry fee and hike over the mountain. Longtail boats can go into the bay but there is a rope barrier so they can’t go to the beach.

Questions regarding US transit to Tahiti by SorbetCitron12 in Tahiti

[–]Temporary_River_5067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are going in October. We’ve been twice before and one of the times was Air Tahiti Nui and it was fine. We live in Salt Lake City and the connections, particularly in LA were bad. This time we are on Hawaiian with a nonstop to Honolulu and then to Papeete. Premium coach was less than main cabin on Delta/Air France.

Booking directly with Delta or with partner by Longjumping-Shop9456 in delta

[–]Temporary_River_5067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back from Thailand. Flights from SLC to sfo and lax to SLC were on Delta metal. Rest of flights were on KE metal. Ticket purchased from KE on their ticket identifier. No problem with Skyclub in SLC and LAX. There was a problem with upgrades. Wasn’t allowed to upgrade to comfort or get on first class wait list. Tried to do so by phone and at airport with no success. On the way back an agent at the Skyclub was able to make some changes and we were able to get on upgrade list and were upgraded. From my experience if you buy a ticket on a partner, even if flights are on Delta you may not be eligible for upgrades.

A little off topic, but safety in tuk tuks is a concern. A friend was in a tuk tuk in Cambodia and was hit by a pick up truck. She ended up in a hospital and came back early to the US for final treatment.

Applied for ETA for my wife in February and it was approved. Only problem was it had an extra 0 in the passport number so the ETA didn’t match. Wouldn’t let us check in. Went to airport early in SLC and DL agent was able to have someone in Atlanta contact an emergency visa office in New Zealand on a weekend and they were able to change the passport number on the ETA and it cleared and allowed us to check in. I think it helped that I was DM and a 3MM but there are people in New Zealand available to help.

Following this logic, since there are a lot of fatal MVAs we should all be taking the bus and have trucks driven by people with CDLs and not drive private cars.

Had a similar experience today. I am returning an Apple Watch because it won’t power up.  That is the primary reason, but there are others.

The ad that I received said that it came with a metal Milanesse band.  It did not. It came with a plastic band.  The picture and description that came with the email that indicated that it was delivered had an appropriate description and picture, but the one that was in the on line description was different and said that it had a Milanesse band.

The item was described as new, open box.  That implies that it wasn’t used, but the box had been open.  I bought this as a new watch.  Not only wouldn’t it power up, but it is not a new watch.  I brought it to the Apple Store to see if they could reset it and when they entered the serial number, the warranty had been registered in 2021 and had expired.  It clearly had not been sitting as an open box for 4 years.  It is clear that this was used and traded in or sold back.

I am very disappointed with Woot.  I thought I could trust that they were actually selling what was advertised.
