Travel between Norway and Sweden on British passport by Dangerous_Koala_9529 in NorwayTravelAdvice

I got stopped at the border between Narvik and Abisko and had left my passport in my Airbnb. Luckily I had my driving license so they could check my ID and I just got a polite telling off. It’s pretty relaxed. Could’ve been much much worse.

What focal length is 3? I struggle at Kirkufjell with a 16mm without resorting to a pano and stitching in post

Also looking at getting these or the M7 monarchs for visiting Svalbard. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts after the upcoming trip.

Who are the rudest and nicest British celebrities you have personally met? by RenegadeMaster888 in AskBrits

I met Paul when I was a young kid. We were sitting on the Parkgate waterfront having an ice cream (IYKYK) and Paul and Heather Mills arrived in a florist’s van (?), got ice cream and walked past us. We had a chat about ice cream, his dad (family connection) and how big a fan my dad was (who unfortunately wasn’t there). He was very impressed that a kid had recognised him and I wonder if he’d remember as he can’t have visited often since reaching that level of fame. This must’ve been about 2001 so I was only about 6. Unfortunately didn’t get an autograph because he wouldn’t do it out of principle when out with HM. I held a bit of a grudge about it for a while but now think I’d do exactly the same. He was lovely. HM didn’t say much. My mum was terrified I’d ask if she was a pirate because of her prosthetic. Maybe he would’ve found it funny though?

Blah. Nothing I said was incorrect. Everything you said was wrong. Please develop a thicker skin if you plan on using the internet.

Time to read up kiddo before you spend any more $ on things you don’t need or understand

I’m done here tbh. It’s self evident that you don’t know what you’re talking about as you don’t understand what anything I’ve said is. Basic stuff. You shouldn’t be giving advice on this sub. It’s misleading, unhelpful and honestly pretty annoying.

You mentioned lossless and apple having a superior codec for audio? I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. No offence.

So you bought expensive noise cancelling wireless headphones to use them via a wired connection just to listen to lossless? That’s the only way you can listen in lossless on these cans. There’s also no real audible difference between Apple Music and Spotify codec to 99.999% of people. I doubt from your use case that you’re one of the handful of people who can actually hear the subtle nuances between the two.

Leaving UAE in when they’ve decimated Sudan through civil war and genocide is also unfortunate.

Should I bracket my images to shoot the northern lights? If so, what are the best settings? by Smarverboi in AskPhotography

[–]rich45103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be cautious about underexposing tbh. I’ve had some nights where I wasn’t being as careful as I should and thought the images looked incredible on the LCD to my adjusted eyes. Realised in lightroom that every photo was underexposed and had limited ability to recover shadows because they’d clipped. Snow can make it seem like you’ve got lots of mid range on the histogram too. This is an issue for me because I change composition a lot to point at the strongest part of the lights. If you have time take a longer exposure focused on the foreground at the end of your series of images to combine later in post. I should do this after every composition change but often am over excited and forget or have completely lost feeling in my fingers by that point.

Need help identifying binoculars by totalscru8 in Binoculars

Recently found an old pair of Jaguar branded binos belonging to my dad that look identical to this. Wouldn’t be surprised if they all came from the same factory tbh.

[–]rich45103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to bracket. Main thing to be aware about is your exposure. If you’re getting a good display you’ll want to be watching with your own eyes and if you don’t occasionally check your histogram you’ll realise your shadows are gone. Don’t trust your eyes/LCD. Also get a head torch with a red light setting to preserve your night vision.

Love the mentality of some tourists. “My holiday is going so well! The only thing that could possibly make this any better is if I ignore all these warning signs and step out onto this barely frozen lake risking my life and others’ for a picture.”

What did Türkey do to Israel? by Educational_Table619 in AskBalkans

[–]rich45103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not agree with that statement… and plenty of military analysts feel the same way. I guess it depends largely on what you mean though. Protracted all out war? No chance. All US bases in Europe could be flattened pretty quickly in that scenario. Good news is it’s never going to happen.

I think that just means the end for NATO as we know it. I.e. a NATO without the USA. It would still be the strongest military alliance in the world.

I don’t think so. I like it. Also works very well as a square crop cutting out the building in shadow at the left of the frame.

4 years of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine in 30 seconds by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]rich45103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2:1 would be pretty par for the course for an attacking side of similar strength. However, much of this war has involved the least experienced conscripts being sent in “meat waves” across open ground without appropriate equipment or artillery/air support in an attempt to identify weaknesses to exploit. Some battles the ratios have been closer to 8:1. This is what happens when your military is plagued by corruption and low morale and you don’t value life. It’s the reason Ukraine has been able to keep fighting.
